How to Scan and CopyKIC Scanner Copy Machine

ScanningYou can use both the KIC scanner and the copy machine to scan. The best one to use depends on what you’re scanning. Both options are free to use.

KIC scanner:•Books•Oversized items•Non-standard items•Delicate itemsCopier:•Loose, standard-size paper, particularly double-sided or multi-page originals

The KIC scannerNote the green line in the center of the scanning surface. This is where the spine of your book goes. If you are scanning a single standard sheet of paper, place the edge of the paper along this line.

The KIC scannerThe KIC scanner is designed to scan books; by default, it will automatically

split what it assumes to be a book spread into its individual pages along that green line. If you do not want it to split, you can change this by selecting

‘single images’ before you begin scanning.

When you hit ‘scan’ for the first time, a copyright notice will appear. You must accept the terms to continue, by which you agree to abide by the terms of fair use.

You may find it necessary to hold the pages of your book flat as you scan

Once you scan, the scan screen will show thumbnails of the pages and the monitor above will show a large preview of the thumbnail image that is selected in red. (you can change the selection to view whichever page you like.)

As you continue to scan, the thumbnails will be added to the scan screen and the preview will display the latest page scanned.

If you want to save a part of a page as its own image, you can go to the ‘modify images’ tab.

On this screen, you can rotate, split, and clip your image.

To clip, you select the area you want using the blue box (drag it with your fingers)There are two ‘clip’ options; ‘retain original’ creates a new image for the clip and leaves the original intact, ‘delete original’ crops the existing image

Once you’ve scanned all your pages, go to the Save/Send Screen. There you can select the pages you wish to save, as well as the format and quality of your scans.

To email, select the email option and enter your email address. Please note that the email attachment limit for FIT emails is 25 MB.

To save to a USB drive, insert a USB drive into the port on the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The ‘Save to USB Drive’ button will be grayed out until the drive is plugged in, at which point it turns green and you can select it.

To save to cloud storage, select that option and enter your information

Once you save, it will ask you whether you want to continue scanning, continue outputting (save or send in an additional format), or end the session. If you choose to end the session, you will receive a dialog box asking you to confirm that you are done.

The copier is great for scanning loose papers, especially multiple and double-sided pages.Swipe your card to begin.
