VA113 Open frame corkscrew with locking swivel collar marked at the top of the frame G.M.T. Co. on one side and SAXONY on the other. The handle is cracked but functional. $12

VA121 A Nickel-plated open frame corkscrew with ball bearing assist. German Registered Design Number 1,308,467 of May 28, 1934, Firma Adolf Menz Wve. There is a locking device on the shaft. It keeps the frame from pushing up when the cork is self-extracted. It can then be depressed to push the frame up the shaft for easy removal of the cork from the worm. $65

Casco Adhesives was founded in 1928 by Leif Amundsen ((nephew of Roald Amundsen, the first person at the South Pole). Casco Adhesives is still in business and is located in Kristinehamn and Nacka, Sweden. It is part of Akzo Nobel, one of the world’s leading chemicals corporations. The company sells and develops adhesives and adhesive systems for the wood-working industry. In 1932, the Borden Company introduced Casco Glue in the U.S. market.

There were times before July 19, 1911 when Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was spelled without the letter “H” at the end. But at a special meeting of the United States Geographic Board held on July 19, 1911 the previous decision with regard to the spelling of Pittsburgh without the final H was reconsidered and the form below was adopted: Pittsburgh, a city in Pennsylvania

Frank Lippincott wrote "In utilizing my invention the screw may be inserted in the stage-floor, walls, or upper structure to provide a fixed point of attachment, so that cables, hooks, guy-ropes, &c., may be readily engaged with the ring portions and fastened to the handle, or the device may be used in connection with the various stage-settings and scenery-frames as a fastening means or coupling member." U. S. Patent No. 820,655 was issued May 15, 1906 for a "Stage Screw". $39

VA29 On August 20, 1850 Seraphin Bossin was granted French Patent No. 10,004 for his cork removing machine. The corkscrew was secured in the machine to pull a Champagne cork. $75

He wrote "The cutter is illustrated in operation ... the unsliced portion of the potato, the spiral or cork-screw like slice produced by the progressive movement of the improved slicing device." $35
