Introduction and Background
The products were designed and developed by a Canadian chemist in the late
1970’s as a means to combat the harsh corrosion effects caused by road salts used
to reduce icing of motorways across Canada.
The vehicles in that era were treated with anti-corrosion compounds, but they were
mostly wax based. The wax base worked to protect against corrosion, however as
soon as there were any scratch in the wax or an area that was not coated properly,
the corrosion would move in between the wax layer and the metal surface and
spread like a cancer with devastating effects.
Mr Pearson, a Canadian chemist, at the time made it his mission to develop a
product that would bond with the surface of the metal and would neutralise the
electric charge of the surface, making it impossible for the corrosion molecules to
attach to the surface as long as the product was present on the surface.
The product needed to be environmentally-friendly, non-toxic, non-flammable and
entirely dielectric and contain no propellants that would cause wiring and electronics
to break down or become brittle.
After several years of development and testing he managed to perfect his creation
into the world-class and leading corrosion prevention products known as ACF-50
and Corrosion Block, selling it through his company Lear Chemical Research
Corporation.
ACF-50 was the first product that was produced and it was specifically designed for
the US Government and Military in line with strict Military Specification guidelines
and ASTM International testing standards. ACF-50 met and even exceeded these
high standards and has been awarded Mil-Spec Type II and Type III certification and
carries 19 various airframe OEM’s and industry standards including the likes of
AIRBUS, Boeing, Douglas, etc.
Corrosion Block was developed from ACF-50 as the need for a marine and industrial
alternative on a much larger scale was quickly seen and addressed by Lear
Chemical Research Corporation.
Corrosion Block products feature several of the same groundbreaking characteristics
of ACF-50, as well as many feature changes making it ideally suitable for the harsh
industrial and marine industry requirements and applications. A range of high
performance greases was also developed for Corrosion Block, that would be suitable
for all grease applications and also offer the fantastic corrosion prevention
capabilities of ACF-50 and Corrosion Block.
The South African importing rights were secured for all Lear Chemical Research
Corporation products by Mr Mark Jackson after a visit to Canada and seeing the
opportunity for growth locally. He founded Universal Corrosion Stop CC.
