Enabling Supply Chain flexibility with SCV
Merchandising needs to prioritize these orders now!
Has anyone told the drayage company they need to pick up the containertoday and not tomorrow?
The tropical storm is going to interrupt my customer deliveries on the east coast, where are those orders now?
Oh-no, we have a product recall. I need to know wherethe products on that lot number went.
The last minute changes at origin are impacting my ability to meet the ISF deadlines!
Now we’re sourcing from South America with a vendor directmodel to Europe. How do they expect me to manage that?!

Managing an International Trade Challenge
“Certain unfinished wood items must be fumigated before shipment to Mexico.”
“OK, we’ll fumigate all our containers!”
“The containers include product like textiles and food-use items that cannot be fumigated.”
“OK, we’ll identify which items need to be fumigated and ship them separately!” (Adds cost due to shipping under-utilized containers)
“Our WMS does not have the ability to segregate the picks by a SKU flag.”
“OK, we’ll manually create separate orders for the wood items and pick them separately!”
“We can’t fumigate year-round in Chicago (shipping location) due to temperatures.”
“OK, we’ll ship the containers to Laredo by truck and fumigate there!” (Adds cost – rail is less expensive than OTR)
“These goods are shipping in-bond out of an FTZ so they cannot be re-routed to a fumigation site before the point of export.”
“OK, we’ll find a bonded facility in Laredo where we can do the fumigation!” (Adds cost – you pay a premium for storage in a bonded facility)
