How to Hold a

Standard of ExcellenceCU Lead 201Mindy May

How to Hold a Standard of Excellence

• Explore the difference between collaboration and cooperation and develop a Biblical perspective on how to identify, understand, and best utilize your own strengths and the strengths of the people around you.

Biblical Foundation• Colossians 3: 12-17

• “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another, forgiving each other, as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Biblical Foundation

• 1 Corinthians 10:31• “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do

all to the glory of God.”

Define a Standard of Excellence

• What is excellence?• The fact or state of excelling, superiority, eminence

• In considering leadership, how do you determine the standard?

• "The Word of God I think of as a straight edge, which shows us our own crookedness. We can't really tell how crooked our thinking is until we line it up with the straight edge of Scripture.”Elisabeth Elliot

1) What is the mission of the organization?

2) What are the requirements of a leader?– To direct– To fire/hire– To maintain the rules– To maintain the mission

3) What is acceptable behavior?– What “code of conduct” drives the organization?

• Why are these significant?• What happens if you break them?• Is only personal integrity jeopardized?

4) What is the chain of command??– Essential to follow the chain of command and not go outside of that– Usurping authority– Submission to leadership while not demanding it

Determining the Standard

Knowing Your Strengths/Weaknesses

• 1 Corinthians 12: 12

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, through many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body …For the body does not consist of one member but of many.”

• Excellence is established by working together
