Notes for the JourneyHas it ever been hard for you to see where God is moving in

your life, our community or even the world as a whole? It can become easy for us to look around and see the struggles in our own life and the evil and violence that is in the world and wonder where God is in the midst of everything. There is so much that is going on in our lives and our world that we become distracted and even blind to where God is and what God is doing around you.Sometimes we are like the person in the poem “Footprints”, where we wonder why God has left us alone during the hard times. Other times we can clearly see God’s activity when we look back on a situation,

“hindsight is 20/20”. There are many different ways in which we can see God’s action in our lives and the world and participate in what God is doing around us.One way is to be quiet and spend time in prayer remembering God’s promise that we are never alone. Psalm 46 reminds us to “be still and know I am God”. That is hard for many of us because of the pace and demands of life. In the stillness and quietness, we can hear God’s voice in a way that we can’t during the demands of life.Another way is the Body of Christ, the Church. As we participate in the life of the church, during worship, Sunday School, events and relationships that all together make up the Body of Christ. Those relationships and times of worship and learning not

October 2017 Page 4First Christian Church, 1079 SE Jefferson St., Dallas, OR 97338

only help each of us to see God’s action in our lives but also to participate in what God is doing locally and around the world.Your participation in the life of the Church, which is in the life of the people of the church, helps you to see God’s action and allows

each of us to participate and fulfill our ongoing role in the Body of Christ.We’ll see you in worship!Peace.Pastor Darren(Pastor Darren has a blog at http://pastordarren.wordpress.com)

ONLINE GIVINGDo you ever wish you could give without writing a check? Do you ever wish you could give on a weekday? Or at

Midnight? We are now set up for online giving! Go to our web page, https://dallas1stchristianchurch.wordpress.com/, and click on the “Online Giving” page.We now have an app so you can have this on your smart phone. NEIGHBOR LINKUP COMMUNITY CONNECTIONThe churches of Dallas and other community helping organizations have come together in a new way to help people when there is a need. Called Neighbor Linkup, this website allows needs to be screened and then sent out directly to people who have signed up with an account. When there is a need posted

October 2017 Page 6First Christian Church, 1079 SE Jefferson St., Dallas, OR 97338

on the site, you will get an email with the need and contact information of the helping organization. If you can help with the need, you contact the helping organization person and go forward from there. It is a simple process and you are encouraged to do that and be involved in the life of the community. The website is www.neighborlinkup.com/dallas if you would like to check it out. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Darren.

IMPORTANT! NEW BUS DRIVERS/HELPERS NEEDED!

We have had one new person volunteer to be a bus driver;

however, we could use several more to ensure we have someone to drive the bus each Sunday. Ideally, we should have 2 people on the bus each week, so if you don’t want to drive, but would like to help, talk to Royce Thorpe or John Dodge.

SUNDAY SCHOOL The Adult Sunday School class, which meets in the Parlor at 9:30 am, is studying a video series “Jesus”.

When Gary Ivey is here, there is a class for Middle School and High School students.
