In this session, we engage participants with dance and PE choreographed routines that help elementary and middle school students learn about multiplication, factors, and least common multiple.

RACHEL’S BACKGROUND

STANDARDS ADDRESSEDNational PE Standards:

Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

The least common multiple of two numbers is the smallest number for which both of those numbers is a factor.

LCM (3,5) = 15 The multiples of 3 are: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, …

The multiples of 5 are: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, …

LCM (5,10) = 10 The multiples of 5 are: 5, 10, 15, 20, …

The multiples of 10 are: 10, 20, 30, …

LCM (6,8) = 24 The multiples of 6 are: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, …

The multiples of 8 are: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, …

YOUR TURN!

Create a set of movements to demonstrate the that the least common multiple of 2 and 3 is 6.

- It should have two motions to demonstrate the 2, and three motions to demonstrate the 3.

- Every sixth motion will create the same “picture”
