Color Me Organized: To-Doodles Activity
To Do List/Check List and Day Planner
• To Do List/Check list or a To-Doodle o Making a list of everything you need to do that
day will help you stay organized and on track with your responsibilities.
o Once you complete something on your list check it off or cross it out.
• Day Planner
o Find the right type of day planner for you. Some planners have monthly, weekly and/or daily views.
o Color-code it to have things jump out more
Organize Your Mind • Idea Mapping is a powerful whole-brained visual thinking tool that enhances
memory, note-taking skills, thought organization, planning, creativity, and communication.
• It is a great tool to help you organize your thoughts when writing a paper for class or brainstorming the details for an event you are planning.
• It uses color, keywords, lines and images to connect thoughts associatively.
Bringing Color into your Organization
• Use a highlighter to draw attention to sections of a document by marking it with a vivid translucent color.
o Microsoft Word also has a high lighter option that is wonderful when you are doing work in progress. Great for a citation place holder.
• Using a highlighter with a text book
o Do: Highlight key words that will quickly jog your memory about the reading
o Do not: Highlight whole paragraph(s)
• The UNF Women’s Center on the 2nd floor of Building 2 gives away FREE highlighters
• Try using highlighters to color code your day planner.
Staying Organized While Take Notes
• Plan a head, come prepared & organized to take notes
o If you need a note taker contact the Disability Resource Center prior to the start of the semester
o Keep only what you need for class on your desk
o Attend class and sit in the front center
o Review and rewrite your notes after class and organize your notes by topics &/or highlight key points to stand out
• If note taking is a weaker area for you then consider attending the ACE Note Taking workshop that is offered each semester!
Keep it Clean! Stay Organized! • Is there really such a thing as organized chaos?
• The cleaner it is the easier it is to find it
o Keep your resources organized
o Use a cork board to keep your things in a visible place
o Put an auditory reminder on your cell phone events
o Keep all of your papers, pens, & books in the same spot to keep it clean & stay organized. Many stores have great resources such as paper bins or desk organizers for inexpensive prices.
• Pick a day, schedule nothing, put on cozy clothes, put some music on your iPod and start organizing. You will feel great at the end of the day!
Collaborate with Others
• What are some of your own tricks to saying
organized? Please share with us your ideas!
