Child mortality, also known as under-5 mortality or child death, refers to the death of infants and children under the age of five or between the age of one month to four years depending on the definition.

+PROGRAMMES Promotion of Institutional Delivery through Janani

Suraksha Yojana(JSY).

Setting up of facilities for care of sick new-borns such as Special New Born Care Units (SNCUs) New Born Stabilization Units (NBSUs) New Born Care Corners (NBCCs) at different levels is a

thrust area under NHM.

Illnesses (IMNCI) Navjaat Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (NSSK) Skilled Birth Attendance (SBA) Life Saving Anaesthesia Skills (LSAS) Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care (CEmOC) Basic Emergency Obstetric Care (BEmOC), etc.

+Management of Malnutrition: Nutritional Rehabilitation Centres (NRCs) NRCs (Nutrition Rehabilitation centre) in preventing

malnutrition related deaths among under 5 children in Odisha: By Niranjan Bariyar.

+Appropriate Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) The Government of India and UNICEF‘s country

programme action plan for 2013-2017 support national policies and programmes that protect , promote and support optimal infant and Young Child Feeding And nutrition and care for pragnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

+Village Health and Nutrition Days (VHNDs) This outreach approach could be an effective measure

to boost coverage of core maternal and child health interventions by bringing services closer to communities.

+Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) India’s UIP is one of the largest in the world in terms of

qualities of vaccine used, number of beneficiaries, the number of immunization session organized , the geographical spread and diversity of areas covered.

+Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) is a web

enabled name based system to monitor and ensure delivery of full spectrum of services to all pregnant women and children.

+WAYS TO REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY RATE Health risks to newborn babies are minimized by: Quality care during pregnancy Safe delivery by a skilled birth attendant Good neonatal care: immediate attention to breathing

and warmth, hygienic cord and skin care, and early initiation of exclusive breastfeeding.
