Disadvantages of Technology

• It seems mobile technology and the internet have been slowly destroying the meaningfulness of interaction we have with others. Its been disconnecting us from the world around us and coming to a sense of isolation in todays society. Instead of spending time with friends in person we just call, text, or face time.

• Human interaction is important. We need to see each other. This doesn’t just apply to our friends and family, it applies to the world around us. Face to face interaction is proven by studies to comfort us and provide us with some important sense of well being.

• Researchers have found that constantly checking for messages is an addiction which like other drugs can ruin your personal relationships.

• A survey shows that young adults spend up to seven hours a day interacting with technology. For some people it can become a compulsion and for others they feel feelings of withdrawal when they are not with their phone.

• researchers have found that couples who keep in touch too much via technology tend to have less satisfying marriages. The study surveyed social media used by 3,500 couples, including Facebook, emails, texts, tweets and instant messages.

• Couples who used five or more electronic ways of communication reported an average of 14 percent less relationship satisfaction than couples who were less electronically connected.

• Some people consider the traditional family dinner to be an insignificant, old-fashioned ritual. It actually strengthens our brain for human contact but it also helps ease the stress we experience in our daily lives. Now, dinnertime tends to be a much more broken affair. With emailing, texting, and TV, there is little time set aside for family discussion and reflection.

• Researchers at the University of Minnesota found that traditional family dinners have a positive impact on adolescent behavior. The survey of 100,000 teenagers showed more positive values and a greater commitment to learning. Adolescents from homes having fewer family dinners were more likely to show high-risk behaviors, substance abuse, sexual activity, suicide attempts, violence, and academic problems.

• Technology may seem like its bringing us closer to our loved ones because its easier to communicate, but in reality its only separating us from each other. Family's need to set a side a time of day were they all interact but with the devices shut off.
