For most of us, Thanksgiving means an amazing meal to look forward to. But not everyone in our communities can afford such a meal at any time. I strongly encourage you to create “Turkey Baskets” this year for your own club’s communities.

Believe it or not, the end of the 2014-2015 Key Club term is quickly approaching! As we head into the winter months, we also head into District Convention registration, officer elections, LTG elections, and more. Save the date! The Division 32 Lieutenant Governor Election Rally will be held on January 3rd. Remember— if you are interested in running, there is a mandatory informational meeting on November 15th, and a service agreement that you are required to submit to me. Thanksgiving is coming up! What are you thankful for? I am thankful for one amazing Division. Last year, Alan brought the idea of Turkey Baskets to Division 32— for more information, see page 21! In lieu of Thanksgiving, our November DCM will be a yummy potluck. Don’t forget to bring what your club has been assigned!

WHY DO YOU LOVE KEY CLUB?

I love Key Club because it is my passion and family. I have always loved

service since I was young; to find a club where people who are passionate

about the same things as I am is amazing. In Key Club, everyone is

welcomed and lively, I always feel the spirit. Especially within our Division :)!

No matter who you are or where you’re from, we all share the passion of

service and we definitely show it. I love how everyone isn’t afraid to help

each other as well, so we can always help the community (while having a

fun time). I have never been a super dedicated person and I like how that

has changed through KC. I’ve also changed as a person through Key Club

as well. Key Club is just fantastical.

WHY CAROLYN? Carolyn is an extremely dedicated Key Club member,

and has shown that through her involvement in her home club, as well as in

our Projects Committee. She received “Member of the Month” at Kentwood

High School in September. She also went out of the way to attend the

Officer Training in September. I comment Carolyn on her dedication to

service, and know that she has a bright future in Key Club leadership!

WHY DO YOU LOVE KEY CLUB?

I love Key Club because Key Club gives me the opportunity to do

what I love, help people. It’s something that makes me feel good,

and it’s one of the positive things that happened in my high school

life.

WHY HUY?

Huy has been very active in our division, making all of the Divisional

Council Meetings, even if he has had to walk or take the bus. He has

great attendance and truly shows dedication to making events and

meetings, and he always shows inclusiveness towards others. Thank

you for always exemplifying these values!

If we earn 1000 points by DCON, the Lieutenant Governor will be subject to “punishment”, and the division will get some kind of reward. (the specifics of that are to be decided later!) Additional ways to earn points may be added on along the way.

HOW TO EARN POINTS: For every member that pays dues above the total

member count your club had last year, 1 point

For every meeting with above 50% member

attendance, 5 points

For every DCM with at least 25 attendees, 10 points

For every DCM with at least 35 attendees, 20 points

For every $10 raised for the Eliminate Project, 1 point

For every $10 raised for a preferred charity, 1 point

For every Kiwanis meeting attended by any member

or officer, 3 points

For any month that every secretary submits their

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids while increasing awareness of its member hospitals. Key Club participates with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by sponsoring fundraising events. Key Club members also participate in service projects at their local children’s hospital.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Key Club members raise thousands of dollars annually through various programs, including collecting change and taking part in March of

Dimes’ signature event, March for Babies.

Since 1994, Key Club has been Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF and over the years has raised nearly US$5 million for iodine deficiency programs worldwide and HIV and AIDS programs in Kenya and Swaziland. Now it’s

helping The Eliminate Project.

WHAT IS DISTRICT CONVENTION? District Convention, or DCON for short, marks the end of a Key Club

term and the beginning of a new one.

In 2015, DCON will take place at the Washington State Convention

Center from March 13th-March 15th.

Each year, the Pacific Northwest District gets together to celebrate the

year of service, elect the new executive district board, meet other Key

Clubbers all around the PNW, and learn about new service opportuni-

ties.

Last year, our LTG Alan brought the wonderful idea of Turkey Baskets to Division 32. Now that Thanksgiving is approaching, hold a food drive at your school and make Turkey Baskets to give to families in need, since not every family can afford the luxury of an extravagant Thanksgiving dinner. Since our Division spans a geographical region that contains multiple different communities, it is ultimately up to your club to distribute Turkey Baskets to your own communities. One idea is to contact your Kiwanis Club and work with them, another idea is to contact your school’s office for a list of different anonymous families. This Thanksgiving, let’s make sure EVERYONE in our communities get a chance to enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving dinner.

For the month of October, LINDBERGH KEY CLUB showed its spooky colors by bringing the goosebumps out, but for a good cause. Lindbergh Key Clubbers, like many other schools, participated in the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign by asking for donations throughout the month. It all led up to the ultimate candy fiesta on Halloween where Lindbergh asked for candy and donations. Our club also partied up at our Halloween themed potluck, which also featured a raffle drawing. All raffle tickets were $1 each, and all proceeds will be going towards the Eliminate Project. Lindbergh managed to collaborate and rose close to $40. We had a variety of volunteer events ranging from serving guests at a pancake breakfast to spreading mulch over a river shoreline. In general, Lindbergh Key Club has intertwined the Halloween spirit with the wonders of volunteering this month of October. Submitted by Kenji Nicholson, Bulletin Editor of Lindbergh Key Club

For Key Club week, KENTRIDGE KEY CLUB had a social gathering for Key Club members and non-members. At this social gathering, officers lead ice-breakers, people ate food, met new people and learned a little about Key Club. Our LTG Jenny Feng spoke about the District Project and officers were auctioned to get pied. We were able to raise $58.50 for the Eliminate Project and walk away with hilarious videos and photos. Our advisors were present and we could not thank them enough for the contributions and commitment they have made with us and the club, such as staying after school every Friday for recycling. This event sure did bring our members closer together and brought potential members to become more interested in joining the club. It was a great end to Key Club week, although service does not end yet!

So far this school year, Kentlake Key Club has been off to a great start! Our club’s attendance has grown from 5-10 people showing up to meetings regularly last year, to an average of 58. For service projects, our club has volunteered for National Public Lands Day at Lake Fenwick. There, we pulled out weeds and helped to keep the plant life from taking over the trail. Our next service event will be held on the 11th for ReLeaf at Clark Lake Park. We are also getting our club ready for trick-or-treat for UNICEF, donation boxes are being placed in every classroom.

One of many fun projects we had in the month of September was the Take a Warrior Fishing event at Coulon Park with Renton High School Key Club. At this event we sorted life vests, fitted them onto kids and adults, handed out fishing gear, set up chairs and tables, and set up the food area. Our main task was to look after the kids who were too young to go fishing with their families. We only had two toddlers to look after and they were just adorable. We pushed them around in their stroller, fed them snacks, swung them on the swings, and played with them at the playground. The event was overall a success and we all had a great time serving our community with each other!

In the past month, Kentridge Key Club has had a series of service events, like the usual recycling on Fridays, Kent Parks events, marathons, concessions, etc. The event that stood out the most in September was without a doubt the Playground Build. On Saturday, September 20th, we had a total of 32 volunteers from Kentridge attend Kent Parks's Build-a-Playground event, where they got to participate in building a new park in Kent, while enjoying free pizza. A total of 208 hours of service was done for that single event! In just about 6.5 hours, our Key Clubbers, some of Kent Meridian's Key Clubbers, and other volunteers from Kent were all able to help successfully build a new playground at Green Tree Park! Throughout the month of September, Kent-Meridian Key Club has been volunteering at the French Field football concessions on a weekly basis. This event provides volunteers with an opportunity to practice their marketing, communication, and computation skills. Cashiers work at the windows, juggling orders and price computing, while the volunteers in the back are ready to retrieve, prepare, or restock anything as needed. During the hours of business, donation cups are set out to earn extra money for the Eliminate Project. In the past month, our members have racked up over four hundred hours of community service and over $100 of donations, solely from concessions. Members take a liking to this event because what could be better than serving up smiles! :)
