DOCTORS FOR SEVA

A project of “Youth For Seva”

Doctors For Seva(DFS) is a project of “Youth For Seva”, an NGO which has been active in over 50 government schools/slums since April 2007.

DFS comprises a team of Doctors and Medical Professionals across Bangalore who have voluntarily come forward to provide free/subsidized and quality health services to the those who cannot afford basic health facilities.

Our Primary focus is Children in Government Schools / Slums where our Volunteers work.

Doctors for Seva also works towards improving health conditions in slums.

THE CONCEPT

DFS in SCHOOLSThis will be done through our existing network of government schools and

tuition centers (OVER 50) where our volunteers work.

Conducting Health Check ups (General, Dental, Eye)

Providing subsidized / free medicines as a follow up to the health checkups or doctors’ visit.

Providing access to affordable Specialty Treatments as and when need arises.

Conducting Health Awareness Programs

DFS in SLUMS This will be done in slums across Bangalore where our Volunteers have access.

Survey of health conditions in slums(through appointed health workers)

Regular health checkups, including screening of women for cancer, etc

Awareness on general hygiene and personal hygiene (women)

Education on Family Planning Pregnancy related care for women Providing subsidized/free and

quality services for Pregnancy (Delivery) and other treatments

HOSPITALS We invite Hospitals to be a part of our team & contribute in any of the following ways:

• Organizing & conducting Health Checkups in schools & slums.

• Sponsoring Medicines / Treatments as a follow-up of the checkups.

• Providing affordable options for procedures requiring hospitalization.

• Any other way in which you would like to contribute.

OTHER ACTIVITIES OF DFS• Organizing Seminars in Medical

Colleges to orient young medical students towards community service.

• Inviting distinguished doctors and people who have made significant contributions to the society, to share their experiences with students.

• Seva Darshan – Visits to orphanages, slums, old age homes, etc to get a first hand experience of these environments and to assess their medical needs.

HEALTH CARD Each child will be given a Health Card which

entitles him/her to free checkups from the Doctors in our team.

This card will carry details of Pediatricians, General Physicians, Dentists & Ophthalmologists from our list of Doctors For Seva.

Thus each child will have access to some free health checkups as and when they require it.

The card will also help to monitor the overall health of each child.

Who can be a part of DFS? Doctors who wish to be involved in

community service. Students pursuing their MBBS, BAMS,

Nursing and other Allied Medical Degrees or PG in any medical field.

Psychiatrists & Counsellors to deal with behavioral/learning problems in children.

Chemists/Pharmacists who are ready to provide subsidized/free medicines to the lesser privileged.

Hospitals/Clinics who are ready to treat those in need at free/affordable rates.
