The port wine magnolia is known for its richcolour and beautiful scent. The originaldrawing for this design was by my mum.

The magnolia was one of her favourite flowers.

The original sketch for this design was done by my mum, who loved magnolias.

She was a wonderful gardener and a frustrated artist who spent hours in her garden.

Magnolias were a key feature in her garden,and the ‘magnolia stellata’ was particularly

beautiful for its gorgeous structure and form.

This design is inspired by the ever-changing tapestry of amazing street art in my home

city of Melbourne, Australia.

Thalia & Melpomene were two of the ancientgreek muses. Thalia personified joy, the muse of

comedy (the laughing face). Melpomene, meaning choir, the muse of tragedy (the weeping face).

Thalia & Melpomene is art imitating life -if you do not laugh, you will cry.

My son inspires me constantly with his view of the world and how he can see the simple joy and magic in the everyday - the laughter

and joy of him blowing a dandelion. His simple joy is my wish come true.

As with most stories about an amazing journey that starts with ‘one fine spring day’, dog&boy is no different.

With the backdrop of the neighbourhood dog park, a goofy and very lovable labrador called Barry, and an energetic and highly imaginative young son, what else could you expect but to be captured, and captivated, by joy, wonder and inspiration?

How often do we think about or are flooded with images and stories about getting away from the everyday to some exotic destination where all things are - or seem to be - beautiful?

But what about the everyday beauty all around us? During my journey to create dog&boy, I was devastatingly reminded of how fragile the beauty of every day is.

K N O W U S

My beautiful mum was diagnosed and passed away very soon after, from the insidious indiscriminate disease, brain cancer. It was only after her passing when I found out that she was actually a frustrated sketch artist, and a pretty good one. I found sketch book after sketch book of mostly botanical drawings and muses. A reflection of her love of the simple beauty of the things she loved and in everything she saw around her, each and every day.

It is this simple everyday beauty on which I develop the designs for dog&boy.

We are privileged to give a percentage of sales from every dog&boy design sold to Cure Brain Cancer Foundation so someone else’s mum, grandma, wife, loved one, may continue on their journey and enjoy the beauty, and love, of every day.
