Growing in Numbers and Vision ● 2017-18 marks DECA's third year at DSHS.

● Membership was 40 in 2016-17, but is now over 60 strong in 2017-18.

● Qualified 22 students for state competition in two years.

● In 2017, a DSHS student reached the international competition in Anaheim, CA as

a result of her work with Texas DECA social media and her collaboration with

Texas DECA news publication.

● 8 students attended national career and leadership development conference

(called DECA Power Trip) in Washington DC in 2016.

Business Operations Research● Students are working with 12 local business owners to complete the project.

● Students partner with a local business owner of their choice to conduct a

month-long research study.

● Students synthesize the information and provide a strategic plan to the business

owner on how to enhance or improve the customer experience.

● Project culminates with each student crafting a 30-page cost-benefit analysis report

and delivering this assessment to the business owner.

Tiger Shack● Entire class collaborated with Engineering and Advanced Welding classes to have

an existing trailer converted to a mobile sales trailer for the Tiger Shack.

● The trailer will be used this year at school functions throughout the district,

including First Thursdays and Founders Day.

● The Tiger Shack continues its mission of being a student-led business.

● Students operate and supervise all aspects of sales, budgeting, and marketing.

Mattheau Letson, Dripp’n Paint and Body● Two-year Career Prep student.

● Hands-on learning: painted and

repaired variety of cars.

● Built his own car for senior portfolio.

● Now works full-time in the industry.

Dripping Springs Real Estate Seminar ● 40 students enrolled (senior only class).

● Course will host 5-6 guest speakers each semester.

● Field trips each semester where students will walk

through listings with brokers.

● Spring trip will conclude at a local ranch and

include hands on surveying techniques and

home inspections.

● Goal is to coordinate a single testing date at the end of the

year where students will take their real estate licensing exam.
