• March 17, 2011, Malik Daud Khan was conducting a meeting in Pakistan of a peaceful council to settle commercial disputes (Ross, 2013).

• At that time, the United States CIA initiated a drone strike in Pakistan in the area where the council was holding their peace meeting (Ross, 2013).

• More than forty people died in the drone strike (Caswell, 2015).

INTRODUCTION

A drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and unmanned aerial system (UAS), is a unmanned flying machine that is equipped with a camera, intelligence software to zero in on targets, and are able to hold and release missiles (Shane, 2015, p. 69)

• Killing of civilians• In the last 10 years of the 370+ strikes performed:• 3,000+ casualties• 22% of which were civilians• Less than 2% were high priority targets identified by the CIA
