Headteacher’s News Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted to be wring to you at the end
of another very successful year and I am
pleased to share more of our students’
achievements in this newsleer.
This is very much a me of welcomes and
farewells. It has been a pleasure for our staff to
meet so many of our incoming Year 6 students
during their recent inducon. They were a
credit to their schools and it was wonderful to
see them all looking forward to joining us at
Bromfords. It has also been a pleasure to welcome Year 5 students to taster days during this half
term.
We have also had to say goodbye to our Year 13 and Year 11 students this half term. Both cohorts
have contributed massively to life at the school and we
wish them well for the future. For many of our Year 11
students it will be a brief farewell, as we will be welcoming
them back to Sixth Form in September. The recent Sixth
Form inducon day was a resounding success and it was a
pleasure to see so many students back in school within a
few days of the end of their GCSE exams.
As ever, the term has been very busy and has included a
host of successful events. These have included the
Wickford Arts Fesval, Celebraon Evenings for all year
groups and the primary school athlecs event.
Thank you for your support this year.

Under 15 Girls’ Handball Team Congratulaons to the U15 Girls’ Handball Team, they came third in the
regional round of the handball compeon. The compeon was fierce
compeng against counes such as Bedfordshire, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and
Norfolk. All the girls worked really hard to progress to this stage, however on
the day they just couldn’t convert their scoring chances into goals. Then again,
there is always next year ladies, I look forward to the challenge.

Under 15 Boys’ Handball Team Congratulaons to the U15 Boys’ Handball Team who finished second in the Eastern Region round of England
schools’ Handball Compeon. The day was dominated by
some excellent and hard-fought matches being played.
The boys had a fantasc run up to the final, beang teams
such as HerCordshire, Norfolk & Bedfordshire.
Unfortunately, despite being unbeaten throughout the
group stage and the semi-final, the boys had the misery of
losing in the final on a penalty shoot-out. This was aDer a
monumental effort to win the game and having an
honourable menon from all those there as to how well
they played. It is in these hard sporng moments that we
learn and hopefully equip ourselves with the skills to
overcome them in the future. There are some bright
futures within handball and sports for these
young men, good luck to them all.

Under 14 Gymnascs Success A massive congratulaons to Robyn Benne, Brendan Grimble, Macey Marra, Harry Vorley and Ashleigh Barker as they
competed in The BSGA Naonal Finals on Sunday 7th
May. We took the long trip to Stoke-On-Trent and represented
the South East Region in the Naonal Finals. To represent the school in any naonal compeon is a wonderful
achievement and I am very proud of them. The whole squad worked really hard to be there and should be very
pleased with their seventh place. This is seventh in the whole country. Well done to you all, and I look forward to
beginning training next year.

African Drumming Workshop On Tuesday 16
th May, approximately 55 selected students from Years 7-10
took part in an African drumming workshop delivered by Dan Sceats from
Essex Music Service. For students already taking GCSE music and those
who have opted to take it next year, this workshop was important as
African music is a unit they have to study for their exam. They will be able
to transfer the knowledge and skills learnt during the workshop to their
studies in the classroom. For other students, aending the workshop was
a reward for their consistent hard work and posive aItude during music lessons this year.

Year 4 Superhero Day at The Bromfords
School and Sixth Form College In May, 45 Year 4 students from Grange Primary School
spent the day at Bromfords with staff from the English
Department. The students took part in a range of
acvies exploring the world of the Superhero and the
techniques used by writers to create them. By the end
of the day, students had created their own Super
Heroes and wrien a short piece about them in acon.
All the staff involved were impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the students and by the work that they produced
throughout the day. When asked if they had enjoyed their visit, the students' responses ranged from "awesome" to
"Gr-r-reat". Hopefully it will not be too long before we get to work with them again.
Our thanks go to all the vising staff and students from Grange Primary School and for all our Year 7 Ambassadors who
gave up their break and lunchme to come and support the event.

Theo (Year 7)
Theo has seled brilliantly into life at the school and tries hard in all of his
lessons. He is keen to help and gives some very good answers in class. He
has also volunteered to help new Year 7 students understand what our
school is like by vising them in their primary schools and talking to them
when they visit the school.
Theo has donated his money to the SEND Department.
Elif (Year 8)
Elif is absolutely outstanding in
Technology. She has excelled in food and in
texles and RMT, she has completed
exceponal work. She is a fantasc role model
for others in her class. She always manages to
complete her own work to a brilliant standard
and at the same me supports others who
struggle or who lack understanding. Elif is
always smiling, a joy to teach and tries to excel
at everything she puts her hand to.
Elif has donated her money to the Drama
Department.
Skye (Year 9)
Skye has been nominated for the Jack Petchey Award as she is a shy student
who is overcoming challenges. As well as working hard in her lessons, she
gives up every break and lunchme to come and help in the Library, when
she deals with the book returns and issuing new books to students. She is a
definite asset to the Library and the wider school.
Skye has donated her money to the Art Department.

Year 7 Poetry Recital Compeon ADer the Easter break, Year 7 students spent a half-term studying poetry. One
of the homework tasks set was to choose a poem that meant something to
them and to pracce recing it for a performance. The aim was twofold:
firstly, to get students engaged with poetry and secondly, to begin to develop
their skill and confidence in public speaking.
At the end of the half-term all students recited their chosen poems to their
classes and a winner was chosen to go forward to the final. The finalists
were: Ruby Anderson, Alarnna Eple, George Kerbyshire, Lucy Peale, Lucy
Skeggs and Crisano Wilson.
The final took place during a special assembly on Friday 16th
June with finalists performing their recital in front of the
whole of Year 7. Despite feeling very nervous, all finalists performed incredibly well and the judges, Mrs Rainey (Year
Leader for Year 7) and Miss Bailey (Assistant Head and Head of English), found it difficult to choose a winner. However,
due to the dramac delivery of her poem, Lucy Peale was announced the winner.
The English team would like to congratulate all the finalists and also every student for taking part.

Ski Trip 2017 During Easter 2017, 62 students and 8 staff travelled to Sunday River, USA for an
adventure in the snow! Fabulous snow condions saw some great skiing, with
all making excellent progress. Beginners made their way from the nursery slope
to the various peaks on offer and the experienced skiers found some great
skiing on the slopes. An awesome me was had, both on and off the slopes and
then we made our way South to New York City, via a shopping mall (Ralph
Lauren took up plenty of luggage space!).
Once shopping was undertaken, and an overnight stay in New Jersey, we travelled to New York City to take in the
scenes and views of ‘The Big Apple’.
Thank you to all of the staff, students and parents for a fabulous trip. Here’s looking forward to 2019 and the next trip
to Colorado!!! Keep Easter 2019 free!!!

the 3Sixty Bike Display Team who
between them hold eleven world records.
