EB-6332 > 0611 > PAGE 1 OF 5
Todays huge and complex data warehouses
demand ever increasing levels of automa-
tion and management. And that means
you must have all the tools and technolo-
gies right at your fingertips to be able to
view and analyze system performance
whenever and wherever necessary. What
you need is a true command center, a
centralized location where you can monitor
Teradata Databases and visualize real-
time performance and historical trends.
Thats why Teradata Corporation, the
global leader in data warehousing and
analytics, has developed the Teradata
Management Portlets bundle: to give
you everything you need for analysis and
display of performance and database
utilization information through leading-
edge portal interfaces. The portlets are
easy to use and are accessible from select
Web browsers by managers, business
intelligence (BI) users, and database
administrators (DBAs).
Teradata Lowers Cost of
Ownership
Teradata Management Portlets bundle
offers you a powerful and versatile collec-tion of integrated database management
portlets and provides you with real-time
insight to handle your increasingly com-
plex production environment. It allows
you to efficiently process your most critical
work and keep your entire enterprise
running at peak performance. Its a
combination that translates to less work
for administrators and a lower total cost
of ownership (TCO) than other data
warehouse databases on the market today.
Easy Deployment and UseTeradata Management Portlets are built
on the market leading Teradata Viewpoint
portal management framework. Teradata
Viewpoint, the foundation for all Teradata
management activities, delivers a web-based
interface common to all the management
portlets, making it easy to deploy and use
new portlets with minimal training.
Among Teradata Viewpoints features are:
> Consistent user experience across all
Teradata management portlets.
> No client tool installation; all portlets
are accessible from any web browser.
> Performance data are collected in a
local Teradata Viewpoint appliance
cache to eliminate the impact on the
Teradata Database.
> Rewind enables you to rewind a
portlet to any previous time slot
from previously collected data.
Performance Analysis and
Problem Resolution
Teradata Management Portlets allow for
query, manipulation, and display of
actions against current and historical
performance and usage data to allow you
to quickly identify and resolve resource
bottlenecks and ensure your Teradata
systems are running at peak efficiency.
With Teradata Viewpoints flexible portal
management framework, you can organize
and group the portlets columns and tabs.
The portlets provide real-time data and
trend charts showing resource consump-
tion over any time duration contained in
the collections.

Alerts services such as logging, email notification, SNMP traps, and running BTEQ scripts or
custom programs are configured by the administrator, as well as the alerts triggers and
actions. Use to monitor alerts over different periods of time.
Query SpotlightDBA or
BI User
Analyze problem queries by viewing completed queries that exceeded the thresholds you set.
Users can view individual queries of interest as a line graph over time and against a variety of
metrics. The Snapshot tab displays query data at any point in time. View general information
about a query, inspect a query as a line graph using the date-range slider and time marker, or
set a date and time in the rewind tool bar.
Query MonitorDBA or
BI User
View information about queries running in a Teradata Database system to quickly spot prob-
lem queries. Users can analyze and decide whether or not a query is important, useful, and
well written. After identifying a problem query, correct it by changing the priority or workload, releasing the query, or aborting the query or session. Filter queries in all session views or set
thresholds for any column when the threshold is exceeded.
Helps user determine types of utilities that are running most frequently on the system and
then set utility limits.
Node ResourcesManager
or DBA
Monitor physical and virtual resources to locate over- or under-utilized resources. Isolate
performance or system issues based on CPU and other systems resources.
Metrics AnalysisManager
or DBA
Analyze resource usage trends on one or more Teradata Databases. Graphs trends according
to metrics, such as CPU, memory, and throughput, within a specified time range. Refreshes
information every 60 seconds.
Metrics GraphManager
or DBA
Analyze resource usage trends on a Teradata Database system. Displays a graph for a specific
time range with time on the horizontal axis and metric values on the vertical axis. The time-range buttons on the toolbar allow you to select one- or three-month periods. Each graph
point represents the value collected for selected metric during preceding one-hour period.
Identify daily or weekly periods when a system is either over- or under-utilized. Determine
when to schedule resource-intensive jobs with minimal impact to other users.
Capacity HeatmapDBA or
ManagerAnalyze resource usage trends on a Teradata Database system.
Todays StatisticsManager
or DBA
Monitor current resource-use statistics and compare them to statistics collected during the
same period one or more weeks in the past. They can also determine if you are maximizing
the utilization of your Teradata Database.
ProductivityManager
or DBA
Analyze performance trends and unusual system loads over 24- or 48-hour periods. Compare
current performance with average performance measured across one or more weeks of
historical data. Monitor and compare the productivity of multiple Teradata Database systems.
Space Usage DBAMonitor Teradata Database disk space usage (database perm space, temp space, and spool
space) and reallocate permanent disk space from one database to another.
Lock Viewer DBA
View the lock data, such as transaction, session, and lock object identifiers, as well as global
deadlocks. Helps user determine whether or not system performance has been degraded by a
database lock.

Alert Setup PortletThe Alert Setup portlet, which is targeted
for the DBA, allows the DBA to add alerts
and set rules to trigger alerts and perform
any of these actions in response to alerts:
> Write to the alert log.
> Send email notifications.
> Send SNMP notifications.
> Run BTEQ scripts.
> Run programs.
Alert Viewer Portlet
The Alert Viewer portlet enables either
a DBA or manager to view predefined
threshold alerts defined for the system.
It displays detailed information about
what triggered the alert, the source of the
alert, and any relevant messages. Users
can filter the alerts by severity, time
period, type, or name. Alert information
is updated every 30 seconds.
Query Spotlight Portlet
The Query Spotlight portlet allows the
DBA or the BI user to analyze problem
