SPEED MONITORING RELAYModel number : SMR-C03
YSL Electronics
DEVICE DESCRIPTION
SMR-C03 can indicate and monitor the speed of rotating shafts that occur in areas of automation and process control applications. The rpm is measured in accordance to the period of the input signal. The device can also measure actual rpm of slow processing applicationswhere signal sensors provide many pulses per revolution. The measured rpm is indicated by a 4-digit, 7-segment LED display on the front of the device, with up to two places after the decimal point. The device speed sensing range is 1 to 9999 rpm. High, low speed limit and other parameters can be set based on the nominal operating speed of the process that is monitored. A relay contact is switched depending on the operating condition of the monitored system(MS). Relay activation delay and by-pass/power-ON delay parameters can be set appropriately. The relay activation delay can totally obviate the requirement for the subsequent addition of a timer relay. After powering up the device, the by-pass/power-ON override delay is initiated, which prevents error signals during the running up of the MS.

The device monitors the speed of MS. If the speed is within the specified range( within the high and low speed limits) the operating condition is normal. But if the speed is out of the specified range the operating condition is treated as abnormal and the relay is activated. The operation is graphically shown in figure 3. The high/low speed hysteresis value is calculated based on the current set , speed parameter respectively as shown in the table 1.01 below. For example if the high speed limit ( ) is set to 2000, the high hysteresis value will be 5% of high speed limit, which equals to 100 rpm. Similarly if low speed limit( ) is set to 1500, the low hysteresis value will be 5% of low speed limit, which equals to 75 rpm.

MENU PARAMETERS AND SETTINGS
YSL Electronics
To enter into menu, press SET key continuously for about 1.5s. The display shows confirming that the unit is now in menu mode. Press INC/DEC keys to scroll through/select main menu parameters. To edit the value of a parameter, first select the parameter from the main menu and then press SET key to enter into submenu. The LSD of the parameter value will be blinking. Now the LSD value can be set/edited using INC/DEC keys. To select the next digit position press SET key. In order to return to the main menu press ESC key. When ESC key is activated in the main menu all the set parameters are saved in internal memory and the device will enter into the monitoring mode. Refer figure 4 and menu parameters section below for more details.

Menu Parameters
YSL Electronics
The relay output switching delay is set using parameter. Refer figure 4 for parameter settings.
Specifies the number of pulses obtained from sensor per revolution. This parameter is helpful while measuring rpm of slow moving targets.Example:The nominal speed of a MS is 2 rpm and sensor gives 1 signal/revolution, i.e. is set to 1. For this setup, the SMR-03 unit takes 30s to calculate rpm. If the setup is modified such that the sensor gives 5 signals/revolution, i.e. = 5, then the unit can calculate rpm in 6s. Refer figure 4 for parameter settings.
The by-pass/power ON delay is set using menu parameter. After device power ON, the bypass/power ON delay is activated. When the bypass time is active the device treats the MS to be operating well within the set limits, irrelevant to the actual operating state of the MS and the relay will be switched to normal state. After the expiry of bypass time, the relay state will be switched according to the actual operating state of MS. Refer figure 4 for parameter settings.
The operating low speed limit of MS is specified using parameter. Refer figure 4 for parameter setting. The general method to set the low speed parameter is < .
