A big welcome Hello to all the wonderful Erina Heights community. My name is Chris Waters and I’m
extremely excited to have joined the strong team at Erina Heights PS in 2019. It is a great
privilege to teach your children and be a part of this wonderful school. Firstly, I would like
to thank everyone I have met so far for giving me such a warm welcome. In 2019, I am
fortunate to teach S1W and lead the Stage 1 classes as Assistant Principal. Although it is
only early days in Term 1, I can already see great things coming from Stage 1 in 2019. A
little about myself as a teacher… I completed a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) at the
University of Newcastle and last year I also finished a Master of Education degree at the
same university. Recently, I taught at Copacabana PS and cherished every moment there.
A little about myself in general… I grew up on the Central Coast at Wamberal and of course
developed a passion for surfing. I also love sport and had a go at most sports growing up,
but I stuck with AFL. I play a few instruments and love to bring them into the classroom
whenever I can. In 2015 I married my beautiful wife Renee and we bought our first house
the year after in Copacabana. I am a proud father of a beautiful little girl, Milani, who has
just turned 2. So, if you see me around school, come and say hi. I am looking forward to
getting to know all the children and community at Erina Heights PS and many great
experiences in the years to come.

Kiss & Drop Area – Name Tags
For those families and students accessing the
‘Kiss & Drop’ area, an important reminder. If
you would like a name plate, for your vehicle,
please call into the front office to request one.
Having your family’s name displayed on your
dashboard, or front windscreen, assists with the
flow of traffic and the smooth and safe exiting of
students at the end of the school day. I thank all

Education guidelines, for all requests for therapy
at school.
Key points in regard to external providers:
Access to the school by externally funded
service providers is at the Principal’s
discretion
The external service needs to align with the
student’s personalised learning plan
Provision during school hours cannot
interfere with the operation of the school
Three key steps for principals in managing
requests from externally funded services to
deliver services at the school:
1. Requests for the delivery of an externally
funded service are considered against the
needs and interests of the student or
group of students who are the intended
service recipients, other students in the
school and the operational requirements of
the school.
2. If agreed, providers need to meet all legal
and policy requirements and enter into an
agreement with the school.
3. Service provider staff undergo an
induction at the school prior to
commencing services.
The school has been approached by external
providers over the last week and just request
and would like to remind parents to contact the
school and provide details of the therapy first
prior to being contacted by the external
providers. This is currently working well for some
students and wish to continue working in
partnership with all.
General Permission to Publish
‘General Permission to Publish’ note has
been sent home today. Each year we ask
parents to provide permission for their child’s
participation in school programs that may
include walking excursions, media coverage,
internet usage and the publication of school
activities on the school website or in the
school newsletter.
Whilst this clearly is an individual family’s
prerogative, having permission to participate in
such programs provides much support to the
educational and extra-curricular opportunities
we offer our students. Please return these
important notes to your child’s class teacher.
Special Religious Education and Special
Education in Ethics
Scripture (SRE) and Ethics (SEE) classes will
again be offered at our school during 2018. It is
anticipated that lessons will begin on Tuesday
27 February. SRE/SEE lessons will run from
1.45 pm - 2.15 pm for Infants students and
2.15pm - 2.45pm for Primary students.
Parents/caregivers in NSW public schools have
the right to have their children receive
instruction in their preferred religious
persuasion, where authorised teachers of that
persuasion are available. A special religious
education program is available at Erina Heights
PS and is run by authorised volunteers of
approved religious persuasions.
Our school has a very dedicated team of
Scripture and Ethics volunteers joining us at
EHPS this year and are very lucky to have their
continued time and support. Our records indicate
that some families have not provided their
religious persuasion upon enrolment. Please
contact the front office, or send a note into Mrs
Tibbutt, in order to nominate the special
religious education program you wish your child
to attend, or indicate that you wish to withdraw
your child from special religious education.
Parental permission for students attending
non-Scripture or Ethics must be received in
writing each year. Please note, once Scripture
and Ethics classes have been established it is
very disruptive to change their composition on a
week-by-week basis. If you wish to request a
change of classes during the year a review may
take place at the beginning of Semester 2.
Technology Subscription 2019
The Technology Subscription is now due for
2019. This year, the Technology Subscription
has been set at $20 per student and is used to
purchase an annual subscription to Mathletics
(K-6).
The students will also have access to Reading
Eggs (K-2) and Reading Eggspress (3-6),
however, this will be paid for by the school to
help reduce the costs to our families.
External Providers through NDIS
If you are accessing NDIS support or therapists
and wish to have them provide in class support
the Learning Support Team has developed a new
process, in line with the NSW Department of

Swimming Carnival Update
A huge THANK YOU to all the staff and parent
helpers at last week’s swimming carnival. The
day was a huge success because of your time,
effort and dedication. Special thanks to Adam
Montgomery for taking time out and organising
the start of our races for yet another swimming
carnival.
Congratulations to all the students who
competed in events. You should all be very proud
of your individual efforts on the day. I loved the
Sports House war cries, this year, especially
when the students sang them all at the same
time! You nearly blew the roof off Mingara.
Thanks also to all the family members who were
able to attend as spectators.
