The Enhancement of the skills in the Design and Assembly of SolidWorks workshop, held 21-22
July provided the budding Engineers brief introduction and application of SolidWorks-2018. The
aim was to make the students familiar with the need and importance of 3D modelling in the
growing industries. The workshop was structured around smaller, facilitated workshops and
presentations to allow all participants to get maximum practical knowledge. There were inputs
from highly experienced professionals from SRMIST and the students participated in the process
with enthusiasm. The workshop was a key activity for the ASME-SRM Student Section as part of
its their major event works that aims to empower learning, develop skills and support opportunities
for all within the societies within which they work. The workshop included lectures, demos and
practice sessions for the participants at the CAD Lab of SRMIST, KTR. A thorough demo over
selected designs that would help them to have a good command over the software and ample of
time for the practice of the participants was aimed and was achieved.
Competition Hour after the workshop

Date: 2nd March 2019
A workshop for engine overhauling was conducted on 7th of March 2019 by Mr. M Deepak
(Asst. Professor) at Automobile Hangar, SRMIST. The students were first briefed on the type of
engines and its classification. In this workshop, the students had a hands-on experience with all the
parts of petrol and diesel engines by dis-assembling it down to the smallest parts and then
assembling it back. The session was divided into two. The first was the theoretical session in which
the students were given insights of an engine. The classification of automobile engines with their
types, uses and applications. The students took apart an engine with the knowledge from the latter
session effortlessly. The students then assembled the engine back. This gives them an insight to
how all the components work in tandem to perform as an engine. All the students got a chance to
do a practical session on disassembling an engine and assembling it back.

get maximum practical knowledge. The workshop was a key activity for the ASME-SRM Student
Section as part of its their major event works that aims to empower learning, develop skills and
support opportunities for all within the societies within which they work. Feedback from the
workshop was very positive students saw great value in learning with other students from different
departments, the opportunity to innovate and design with one another and the chance to explore
ideas.

The open house event was conducted by ASME SRM S.S. for the students of Mahindra World
School. The students were from grade 12 of science and commerce division. ASME SRM S.S.
invited the students to explore different laboratories of SRMIST and to get a brief of different
Engineering disciplines.
The first session was the campus tour where the students were taken to annexure campus on a bus
tour where they visited T.P. Ganesan Auditorium, FAB LAB, different labs, library and then
advanced to the main campus.
In the main campus the students had a break and then were offered some refreshments. The
following session was the introduction session for the students regarding Engineering and
SRMIST.
The following session was lab visit with the professors of SRMIST. The lab in charge of different
labs actually explained the details of lab and type of work that the engineering students do at
college. Students visited different labs including RPT lab, Robotics Lab, Mechanical Hangar,
Aerospace Hangar, Automobile Hangar, Biomechanics Lab etc.
At the end of the session the students were asked for the feedback of their tour and their response
was positive.
Conclusion: The objective of this event was to provide the insights of Engineering so that the
students would get some information about the subject in deciding their career.

The electro pneumatics workshop was conducted for the students of SRMIST. From designing to
the applications of the electropneumatic circuit was covered. he actuation and control of circuits
by Programmable Language Circuit (PLC) and its industrial application and its ease over the
electropneumatic circuit was practically explained and performed by the students. The students
were first taught about the components used in the field of simple pneumatics and
electropneumatic, their functions and how to differentiate between the same. Then, different
circuits concepts were taught by using the combination of different components for a particular
operation. Also, to get better understanding of the circuit before performing it practically, different
software was introduced to test the circuit for its proper working. In the second session of this
workshop it's most awaited part begins. The students were given hands on experience to build up
an electropneumatic circuit both practically and in the software named Festo fluid sim to get better
understanding of the concept covered in the first session.
