Facebook has come a long way since 2004. Here's a look back at some of the site's most notable redesigns and features.

2004: Welcome to thefacebook.com

2005: The original Facebook profile

The Facebook was only available to select networks, the News Feed didn't exist. Users hopped between profiles like this one.

2006: Mark Zuckerberg's profile(Mini-Feed)

2006 brought Facebook's first major redesign. A News Feed was added to a user's homepage, and a Mini Feed appeared on individual profile pages.

2007 - Interaction

While not a huge year for profile redesign, users began to interact more with each other's profiles – Facebook Gifts

2008: Facebook's homepage & The App Era

A sleeker welcome page for Facebook's growing number of users. Users were able to add application tabs to their profiles (e.g. Bumper

Stickers). Facebook also introduced the Publisher tool bar, which allowed a user to publish a status update, photo or link to his profile.

2009: Facebook Pages concept

The News Feed was replaced with a Real-Time Stream. Facebook also asked users, "What's on your mind?" prompting Face bookers to share status updates.

Users could "become a fan" of a Page (until 2010, when they could "like" a page)

2010: Profiles get a facelift/Visual Redesign

Facebook launched a new profile page Users took advantage by getting creative with the new photo banner at

the top of the page. Also, Facebook told you what friends/fans you had in common in the upper right-hand corner of each page.

2011: Ticker and Video Chat

As of Sept. 20, Facebook's new ticker has the ability to follow a user around to every page, including profiles. The company also introduced a "View As" widget in the upper right-hand corner that allows a user to preview how others see her page.

In 2011 Facebook enabled video calling.

2011: Hello Timeline!

The social networking giant ditched the concept of a "wall" and introduced Timeline. "Tell your life story," urged Facebook.

2011: Facebook subscribe

Facebook enabled subscribe in 2011, allowing users to see people's public status updates and posts. Now called "follow“.

2012: Facebook's App Center

To satisfy its increasingly mobile audience, in 2012 Facebook rolled out the App Center. The App Center initially featured about 500 Facebook apps, mostly games.

2012: Facebook acquires Instagram

In the spring of 2012, Facebook acquired photo sharing site Instagram for one billion dollars. Zuckerberg commented on the acquisition, calling it "an important milestone for Facebook."

2013: Graph Search

Earlier this year Facebook announced graph search. The so-called "social search," makes it easier to navigate the site for information about friends and friends-of-friends.
