SPB4L Focus: I Am Responsible For My Belongings: This week as we finish Term 2, we are once again looking at our ‘Be Responsible' rule by revising our need to look after our belongings. As this is our last week of term, it is important that we take all our belongings home over the holidays to be washed and ready for next term. Therefore, we need to collect our lunch boxes, drink bottles, coats, jumpers, tracksuits and any other items we take outside and take them home, so we have no ‘Lost Property’ over the holidays.
Please remember, be responsible for all our own items and collect them at the end of each break. And, make sure your name is one each of your item.
SPB4L Awards: We have had a great response to students collecting their lunch boxes and other items after the Recess and Lunch breaks this week, which has been wonderful. Once again, our SPB4L awards will be given to students who are trying very hard to follow our Focus of the Week. In place of our Assemblies, we have been reading the names of our Award Recipients over the PA just after lunch, and teachers have been giving out the awards in class. It’s great to see just how many students are trying so hard to follow our Focus this week, and we have had a huge improvement on last week’s efforts! Well done to all!!
SPB4L Marbles: Last week our School House Captains started gathering the class Marbles again. We then weighed them and added them to our total. We are now well on the way to gaining our first level of House rewards – a Giant Freddo Frog!!I think it will be a race between Kabbarli (Red) and Woomera (Yellow) to see who will be first, with Bennelong (Blue) and Euroa (Green) not far behind! Each time a student receives a raffle ticket for following school rules and demonstrating good judgement, they also receive a marble for their House. Our House Captains will gather the marbles again this Friday and we will announce our new totals with the Awards on Friday afternoon. Our ‘tallyboard’ is in the Students Foyer so everyone can see how well their House is doing, and how close to the House Rewards they are.
School Reports: Our School Reports have now finally gone home! We did everything possible to have them to you last Friday, unfortunately technology let us down, but they were posted on Compass on Monday. Due to all the limitations Covid placed on normal schooling, these reports look very different to our standard reports, however they still give you a good idea as to how your child is progressing both academically and socially. At this stage we are unable to conduct our traditional parent/teacher interviews, however we will listen to advice from the CEBD and the Government and work towards having parent interviews in the future if possible. School Reports are only accessible through Compass, so if you do not have a Compass Login, please contact the school to create one.
School Uniform: When we come back from holidays we will still be in our Winter Uniform, and I am predicting that it will be even colder than now. Please make sure your children are in the full Winter Uniform, including school tie, school jumper, the correct socks or stockings and appropriate school shoes. On days where the Sports Uniform is required, students may only wear tracksuits and/or shorts that fit the uniform requirements. Brand name clothing items are not part of the uniform (this includes brand name socks). Please also be mindful that hair accessories for girls are limited to school colour scrunchies, ribbons and headbands. Other hair accessories should be kept for weekend wear. Jewellery should also be kept to a minimum, with small sleeper or stud earrings, signet rings and simple chains with religious medals the only items allowed. This is primarily for safety reasons. Although McAuley coats are available, students are also allowed to wear other coats as well.
Lost Property: There are still many items of clothing in the Lost Property. These items do not have names on them, as we return all labelled items to children. Mrs Garnon spends time every day making sure that any lost property items that are named, are returned to their owners. However, some items have names of students who have left the school while others are not named at all. I will organize to have this lost property brought to the Front Office so that parents or children can come and claim any items they own. Any items left over when school closes on Friday afternoon will be donated to the School Uniform Shop. So, if your children have lost something that is not labelled, please ask them to look for it at the Front Office, or you are welcome to call in and see if you can find your items.
Kindergarten Enrolments for 2021: Enrolments for Kinder 2021 are now closed. It is exciting to see the response we have had to our enrolments, and at present we have a waiting list for next year. We will be in touch with parents of our new Kinders with further information regarding Orientation next term.
School Canteen: Just a reminder that our Canteen is currently open for limited operations. As from next term, the Canteen will operate from Wednesday to Friday for both Recess and Lunch.
Wishing you a wonderful week,
Robyn Petty Assistant Principal
MUSIC & DRAMA
Band, Training and Concert, will resume
rehearsals from Friday, Week 1, Term 3.
Prayer
We have been missing gathering together as a school community for Masses and Liturgies so at 10:30am tomorrow all classes will pause to pray. The theme for the prayer is “Give Thanks to the Lord.” We are quick to ask God to help us and to look after us, however, we rarely take time to stop and give thanks for the world around us. Take some time in your day to pray and ask yourself “What is one thing I give thanks for while living in the world today?”
Dear God, We thank you for all the blessings you give and for the kindness you show us each
day. In a spirit of thanksgiving may we always be grateful to you.
When we forget to give thanks may the Holy Spirit touch our hearts so we may show gratitude for all we have.
Amen

Things to do in the school holidays!
Around the Classrooms—1C
1C had a great time constructing towers out of different sized marshmallows and
uncooked spaghetti. The children were then able to identify the positive and negative
impacts of their designs. We discovered that triangle shapes are often the strongest
and every design needs a strong base on which to stand!

Healthy Winter Holiday Fun for the Family
With winter school holidays ahead, it’s time to start thinking about great
activities that will keep everyone in the family healthy, active and engaged
in learning. Rather than vegetating with televisions and devices, why not
consider a different type of vegetation…. like digging in the dirt and making
a new garden together?
Gardening and yard work contributes to the recommended levels of
moderate-intensity exercise that we all need each day (at least 30 minutes)…
and it incorporates fine motor skills development and stretching as well.
Gardening is also an excellent stress reliever because of the exposure to fresh
air and sunshine (which is particularly important in combatting Seasonal
Affective Disorder), includes light, relaxing and repetitive tasks, and exposes us to harmless bacteria in the
soil that helps release serotonin in the brain.
Autumn and winter is a great time of the year to plant those vegetables and herbs that love cooler conditions,
but if you’re unsure of what to plant, check out the local neighbourhood or ask a neighbour or local nursery
what plants will grow best.
In most regions, the following are good options to consider at this time of year:
Asian greens, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, leek lettuce, onions, parsley, parsnip, peas,
raddish, silverbeet, snow peas and spinach.
They’ll be ready to harvest throughout winter and spring and provide fresh produce for the family. If you
have limited outdoor space, planting in large pots is a good way to start learning the valuable new skill of
growing your own food.
Of course you can purchase seedlings if you want to get a jump-start, but if the kids have a particular favourite vegie, it's definitely worth letting them try to grow their own from the seed. If flowering plants are more your style, there are plenty that will grow in cooler climates. Consider: Alyssum, begonia, calendula, delphinium, foxglove, geranium, grevillea, lobelia, snapdragon, and viola.
Another advantage of growing vegies and flowers in winter, is that less
watering is needed due to lower evaporation rate… but, keep in mind
that frost has a critical impact on most plants, especially young ones
that are fragile to temperature extremes. Keep them protected with
covers or frost cloth.
If growing your own food or beautifying your yard with colour, doesn’t
sound like a load of fun, why not consider making your own compost
or a worm farm!
Just because it’s winter, doesn’t mean you can’t connect with nature!
Enjoy! Cherie Rivas
