This tutorial assumes that you have saved session data for individual or merged presentations.

In this tutorial you will:

Review assigning point values for answer options (see Tutorial

on SRS Credit Strategies)

Export session data using a D2L-specific export template

Edit the exported file

Assigning Point Values to Answer Options:A Review

After creating a TP slide, you can assign points for the correct answer; highlight it, right click your mouse and select Set point value.

In the window that appears, type in a point value for the highlighted answer; then click OK.

You are returned to this screen:

You are ready to export a session file. You can do this from within the

session (presentation) whose data you want to export, or from within any

TurningPoint session…

…highlight Tools, then Turning Reports

After opening a presentation,

Select Export Session Data

Default settings allow data export from your open, i.e., current session. Deselect this box to select a session file from another location,

…and select My Session Files (most likely location), or My Backup Session Files

In this example, we will export a file from the My Session Files location (not the current session)…

Highlight the session (.tpz) file to be exported and click Next.

In the screen that appears, click in the box next to Use export schemes.

In the lower part of the window, highlight the D2L Export Scheme

… and Click Next

Here, questions in the session to be exported are checked off. Note formatting options (see tabs).

Since we’re using a D2L-compatible Export Scheme, don’t make any formatting selections.

… just Click Next

…just click Next

The default Delimited format in this window is Comma, the one we want, so…

This window shows participants by username and number of questions in the session that they answered.

There were 14 students in this class, but the range of clickers was 1-200, indicated by the ‘extra’ zeros.

After verifying the info, click on Save the Current Export File (the icon showing a floppy disk with a document).

Give the export file a File name and save it to a location that you will remember!

Then click Save

Click OK

You will be returned to the verification screen. Click Finish.

You are returned to the screen you started on.

•Find and double click on the export file; it should open in Notepad, a simple text editor.

•Highlight all the zeros and delete them so that your file only contains your students listed by their username.

Next, at the top of this document, Type the following, exactly:

Username, [name of grade item] out of grade

Finally, click on File, then use Save As to save the edited file as a CSV (comma separated value, or comma delimited) file … and close Notepad.

The CSV file can be opened by Excel or imported into D2L.
