Bananas

Bananas are one of themost important foods forboth consumption andtrade. Almost 100 millionmetric tonnes of bananasare consumed every year, of which about 15 millionare exported.

In the banana industry, production, profits, andpower are highlyconcentrated. Just fivecorporations controlaround 80% of the world's bananaimport market.

Farmers producingFairtrade bananasreceive the Fairtrade Minimum Price thataims to cover the costsof sustainableproduction or themarket price (whicheveris higher) and a Fairtrade Premium toinvest in projects in their communities.
