A letter from the Parent and
Family Programs Director, Erika
Swanson: Welcome back to campus! Whether you have recently dropped off your Duck or you will have a student graduating in June, you have come back to campus during an exciting time! We hope this is a time for you to celebrate University of Oregon spirit and traditions through our 100th celebration of Homecoming while also reconnecting with your Duck through a number of events occurring in the community this weekend.
Our staff understands that families are invested in this University. It is our parents and families that make this Duck family the vibrant and caring community it is. We couldn’t do this without you. What do we mean when we say that we couldn't do “this” without you, our parents and family members? You each give back to the university in so many ways and support each other as your students succeed in attaining both maturation and graduation. It is an honor to witness the family that is created by all of our parents through any number of ways, from a conversation on our Facebook page and comments on our blog, to reuniting with old friends at a tailgate or giving advice to new Ducks at first-year student sendoffs. So, "this" is community. "This" is the family that you all have helped us create.
A letter from the Parent and
Family Programs Director, Erika
Swanson:
Universities can only reach so far with newsletters and programming, but you put a face to the experience of being a Duck parent. You identify with other
families, empathize if a crime alert comes out, and cheer just as loudly as our students in Autzen. It is my hope that we, as a family, can continue to grow and foster friendships, share information, and support our Ducks. We want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to join us for Fall Family Weekend 2014. Go Ducks!

Director of Parent and Fami ly

Fall in Eugene means the return of students, football and more. Here
are five of our favorite fall activities that you can do.
I joined PFA in the Fall of 2010. Probably, like you, I was thrilled my son chose to go to a University that had so much to offer.
I had always been actively involved in my son’s grammar school; running the Annual Auction, and knew most faculty and families pretty well. In high school, the school was bigger but I found a way to participate as team mom for the soccer and volleyball teams. I felt it was important to make an investment in the schools that were helping me educate my child.
When reality hit that my son was “going away” to school, I didn’t know how I would stay in touch with what was going on in and around school. I want my son to learn to be an independent person, but that doesn’t mean I can’t support him and his school.
I was thrilled to learn at IntroDUCKtion that the PFA might be the answer, so I joined. The organization was new and I got recruited to join the Executive Board.
My involvement with the PFA has given me the opportunity to learn more about UO and meet other parents just like me who want to support their student’s path to success.
As President, I would like to focus on building more Regional Representatives and creating a stronger liaison with the Alumni Association. Together we are stronger. We will continue to create fun activities for all to participate in – like Watch Parties across the US, but also to create future opportunities for our students. Ducks do hire Ducks! I hope to meet as many of you as I can!
