George Murdock (1949)‘A social group characterised by common

residence, economic co-operation and reproduction. It includes adults of both sexes, at least two of whom maintain a socially approved sexual relationships, and one or more children, own or adopted, of the sexually cohabiting adults.’

Extended Family

A family in which sons and daughters live in same neighbourhood as parents, see each other on regular basis and offer each other various kinds of support.

Reconstituted Family

Four Generation family i.e. Including great-grandparents and great-grand-children.

Compare and contrast two different family types, including the benefits and drawbacks of each. (24 marks)
