A message from Meredith
End of Year Celebrations
It is hard to believe 2013 is drawing to an end!
Firstly I would like to thank our school community for
their wonderful support for Illabo Public School over
the past 12 months. Our hard working P&C and our
families have ensured our students have been well
provided for with subsidised excursions, books, iPads
and software. Due to their support they ensure school
events can operate.
The term is not over yet with more highlights to look
forward to! Wednesday night’s Presentation Night –
celebrating our student achievements for 2013 and
presenting to our school community the musical
Bachelor Mouse. Please be seated at the Showground
Pavilion at 7:00pm to enable the night to start on time.
Students will wear school uniform before changing at
the break into costumes (black t-shirt / shorts /
leggings / dress, etc).
Our rehearsal will be Wednesday morning, please see
attached permission note and return by tomorrow,
thank you.
Year 6 Farewell
Our Year 6 was farewelled at Eurongilly Public School
last Thursday night. To Zara, Emily and Jesse, you have
been wonderful leaders in 2013. We wish you every
success for your bright futures at high school.
A big thank you to Mrs Cheryl Carter and the
Eurongilly School community for hosting a great
farewell!
Years 3-6 Sleepover
The Years 3-6 sleepover followed the farewell. A huge
thank you to Mrs Cathy Passlow for making this night
possible by staying over and helping supervise, and to
Mr Max Harris for cooking up great egg and bacon
rolls for breakfast!
Kangaroo March
Congratulations to Alastair Ramsay, Emily and Maeve
Ryan, Ava Croker and Judy Hopkins for taking part in
the choir on Saturday 7 December, for the Opening of
the Kangaroo March Re-enactment.
Emily and Alastair did a wonderful job of laying Illabo’s
wreath. I thank all the families involved for making this
possible, with travelling to Wagga and gathering
costumes at short notice.
Thank you also to Miss Bernadette Leahy for
supporting our students on the day.
Big Day Out in December
A big day out Christmas treat is happening this Friday,
13 December with our students travelling to Wagga to
Cocolatte Chocolatier in Best Street, participating in
chocolate/cupcake decorating, a mini party and then a
3D movie at Forum 6 – a suitable reward for great kids
doing great things throughout 2013!
Transport for the day is by school bus. The day is to be
paid out of Student Council funds raised throughout
the year from Canteen proceeds. A permission note is
attached, please return prior to Friday.
Cooinda Court visit
Next Monday, 16 December at 9:30am we will be
visiting Cooinda Court Aged Hostel in Junee to
Illabo Public School

entertain the residents with a couple of songs and a
quick chat, before heading back to school. Transport
will be by school bus to and from Junee. A permission
note is attached to be returned by the end of this week
please.
Illabo has Talent
On Wednesday, 18 December K-6 will be entertaining
us with Illabo has Talent, kicking off at 11:30am.
If you could send in a plate of party food for students
to share at recess, it would be appreciated.
Building news
We have exciting news – the school office is to be
extended over the Christmas break at no cost to the
school!
We are hoping to organise some built in shelving and
a desk to coincide with this.
Thank you
I would like to thank the Hamilton and Daley families
for their contributions to our school and wish them
well in the future, and lastly, a big thank you goes to
our staff for 2013. I thank them for their ongoing
loyalty, enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring great
things happen at Illabo Public School.
Have a wonderful Christmas and if managing a holiday,
travel safely and have a restful, fun filled break!

Parenting Tips
Ready for high school Can you recall what you were most apprehensive
about when you started high school? This video of
Year 7 students explain why teens shouldn’t be worried
about starting high school, and how they can get off to
a great start in the first few days.

Does your child use Kik? Police have described it as
''the No.1 social media problem involving teenagers'',
but most parents would barely have heard of

Choosing school shoes Are expensive school shoes the best option for happy
feet? Let's face it. School shoes have never been at the
cutting edge of fashion. In fact if you look at what your
parents were wearing, the humble school shoe really
hasn't evolved much at all.

Teach your kids to be waterproof
As temperatures rise, the risk of drowning increases
