Over 1400 attended Farmington Patriotic Day, a strong showing of support for veterans and active military and their families. The event was held on Thursday, November 7 at Farmington High School in Farmington, Minnesota.

FARMINGTON PATRIOTIC DAY November 7, 2013

Community organizations and veterans and military support organizations were available for patrons near the entry.

The students prepared custom placemats with a patriotic theme.

Students also helped with clean-up and organization in the dining area. The Farmington Dance Team played an important role.

Serving lines included members of the School Board, City Council and community leaders.

Community members enjoyed a meal with Senator Dave Thompson and Chaz Johnson from US Representative John Kline’s office.

The program began with presentation of colors by a combined color guard

Jake Hoffman and Cyndi Schmitke served as event emcees.

A highlight of the program is recognition for veterans in attendance.

Farmington’s Concert Band was prepared with a nice selection of patriotic music.

Superintendent Jay Haugen provided some heartfelt reflections.

FHS Television Production hard at work streaming the event live and sharing it on Cable Channel 10.

“In Flanders Fields” was the selection performed by the FHS Cantabile Choir, with Student Conductor Maggie Kielas.

Commissioner Shellito provided a strong keynote address and endorsement of Farmington’s efforts to support veterans and active military.

The Christian Life School students Aundreya Edwards and Abby Haenni led the singing of “God Bless America”.

Patriotic Day Committee member Andy Derner provided some concluding remarks and observations on patriotism.
