“Wisconsin Federation of Stamp Clubs”

My Fellow Philatelists….

F ebruary’s

Presidents’

Day reminds

me of John F.

Kennedy’s

famous

statement:

“Ask not what

your country can do for you,

ask what you can do for your

country.” I think you already

know where I’m going with

this. Yes. It also applies to

the WFSC.

Last month I outlined

all the activities the WFSC

does when fully operational.

To maintain that level we

need your help. Take a look

at the listing below showing

just some of your volunteer

opportunities.

● ATFP editor – We need

someone who is familiar with

a computer desktop publishing

program or proficient with

Microsoft WORD. We have

an Editorial Advisory Council

that will help solicit articles.

We also have an ad manager,

who handles soliciting ads

and collecting payments.

I currently handle the show

calendar. The job, therefore,

is mostly receiving and placing

articles, ads, announcements,

etc., on the issue pages and

sending the copy off to ATFP

proofreaders. After any addi-

tions/corrections are made,

the file is sent via a computer

.pdf to The Printing Place in

Middleton, Wis. The editor

also sends a copy to our

webmaster and informs our

distributor that the issue

is in the hands of The Printing

Place.

● Show calendar and registry

coordinator – I’ve managed

the calendar for many years,

and it’s time to pass this small

but very important responsibil-

ity on to someone else.

It involves keeping track

of WFSC member club

and other major shows and

bourses within and surrounding

the state of Wisconsin. The

coordinator often must contact

the event sponsors to acquire

future show dates and other

information included in an

annual listing that runs from

September 1 to August 31.

The listing requires updates

throughout the year, which

are passed on to the WFSC

webmaster and ATFP editor.

● WFSC historian – John

Paré, our current historian,

has requested he be replaced

as of WISCOPEX 2017, but

is more than willing to turn

over the position at an earlier

date. The historian accumu-

lates prescribed WFSC items

for the archives and places

them on album pages. All

albums are housed by the

historian at his/her home.

● Region VP – Run for an

office as a region VP, who

serves as WFSC representative

to member clubs within that

region. The region VP main-

tains a liaison between member

clubs and the WFSC Executive

Board, assists regional clubs

in cooperative projects or upon

request, and as far as feasible

visits each member club in

the respective region at least

once annually.

● Graphical designer – We

need your graphic arts help in

many areas such as cachets,

cancels, logos, and consulta-

tion on a variety of projects.

● Support our advertisers and

tell them you saw their ad in

ATFP.

● Scan back copies of ATFP

for archival purposes.

● Ensure your club webpage is

up to date – Check your page

often at www.wfscstamps.org.

● Donations – The WFSC

accepts tax deductible dona-

tions for outreach programs,

youth activities and donation

auctions. Also consider

including the WFSC in your

estate plan.

● Educational opportunities –

Volunteer to be on the WFSC

speaker’s bureau, give a semi-

nar at WISCOPEX, write an

article for a future ATFP, cre-

ate a PowerPoint presentation

for the website, or offer scans

of your exhibit for the website.

● Exhibiting – Prepare a

four- or eight-page exhibit

for WISCOPEX and/or

MILCOPEX. (See

WISCOPEX 2016

Call for Exhibits on page 2.)

● Outreach – Organize a

National Stamp Collecting

Month activity or display,

offer to give a presentation at

a school or local organization,

search for major community

events where the WFSC might

become involved.

We need to work together

to achieve our goals and pro-

vide our services offered.

Each one of you can become

a part of the workforce in

some small manner. At the

least, attend our Executive

Board meetings when we are

often brainstorming ideas for

either maintaining, improving,

or adding benefits of member-

ship. We welcome anyone

who comes to sit in on the

meetings and offer ideas.

I hope to hear from you

soon. My email address is

kweigt@tds.net.
