SIGHT & SOUND & A MODEST PROPOSAL
Churchgoers support their house of worship as we do here at Holy Child when the basket is passed.
Catholics are called upon to support the ministry of the Universal Church, pastored by the Pope, with the annual collection, known as Peter’s Pence, which was recently taken up here at Holy Child.
On the intermediate level, Catholics are called upon to support the diocese in which their parish is situated. Thus we have the annual Cardinal’s Stewardship Appeal.
Last year, the Holy Child diocesan goal of $128,000 (embedded in the Renew and Rebuild Campaign) was met by 323 parishioners who made pledges and contributions.
The balance of that campaign is being used to renew systems at Holy Child. Thanks to those generous participants, we now have a new sound system which is operating loud and clear and an efficient interior climate control system.
It will be noticed that newly installed fixtures overhead brighten the church considerably. That is the first stage of the renewal of the lighting system; two other stages will come to pass in due course.
Again, we shine the spotlight on those 323 to whom the congregation owes a debt of gratitude. They are but a fraction of the 2,000 weekly worshippers at Holy Child.
Perhaps gratitude could be demonstrated by joining them here on out in meeting the goal of The 2018 Cardinal’s Appeal . If everyone were to pitch in ($124,000 divided by 2,000) the average pledge/gift would be $62.00.
Clearly, the wider the participation in meeting our diocesan obligation, the less burden for the usual donors. In fairness, they should not be consistently presumed upon to be the only bearers of our Catholic obligation to the archdiocese.
Fr. Travers
