HISTORYState Bank of India (SBI) is government-owned and is the

largest bank in India .

It traces its ancestry back to the Bank of Calcutta, whichwas established in 1806, this makes SBI the oldest commercial bank in the Indian subcontinent.

BRIEF HISTORYStarted as Bank of Calcutta in Calcutta on 2 nd June 1808.

Re- designed as a Bank of Bengal on 2 nd Jan 1809.

It was first joint stock Bank of British India.

Later on Bank of Madras, Bank of Bombay and Bank of

Bengal was amalgamated to form Imperial Bank of India

on 27 th Jan 1921.

It was nationalised on 1955 and was renamed as State

Bank of India .
