• 217,000 gross sq feet interdisciplinary facility• Research labs (biology, chemistry, physics, earth and
environmental sciences, psychology) and faculty offices• Teaching labs• Animal care and behavioral observation facilities• New research centers• Ground floor atrium, café, lounges
• Early site work – December 2010• Construction start – Spring 2011• Opening – fall 2013

Ongoing Projects
• UMass Boston and EMK Institute are collaborating on programs and physical connections
• Construction tentatively slated for fall 2010
• Planning has started for new general academic building (site O Beacons parking lot – includes classrooms, other instructional spaces, and campus-wide functions
• Study and design: 2010-fall 2011• Construction: 2011-2013; opening early 2014
• Utilities and road relocation study to begin this summer• First segments include U-Drive West and North • Work is estimated to begin in mid-2011

• Harborwalk Restoration• Feasibility study done; designer to be hired over next
several months• Construction estimated to start in second half of 2011
• Existing Facilities Renovation• Study is ongoing to determine selective renovations• Design and construction to follow with work estimated

Project Funding
• ISC financed through $100 million in Commonwealth of Massachusetts bond funds and $52 million in UMass Building Authority bonds
• New and renovated academic buildings and infrastructure improvements to be funded through the UMass Building Authority – UMass Boston to pay debt service on bonds
