In a nutshell

Colonization of the New World

•The French came as explorers In 1524

•King Francis I was on the throne at the time

•Came seeking a route to the Pacific Ocean and wealth

• By 1750 New France had a population of 75,000

•Britain's population in the new world was 1.5 million

French and Indian War

•War between France and Britain in the New World

•Started because of disputes over territory 

•In 1763 New France was lost to Britain and Spain

Canadian Confederation

•July 1, 1867•Federal Dominion of Canada formed

•British colonies:-Canada

-New Brunswick-Nova Scotia

•Canada (the colony) was split into the Provinces of Quebec and Ontario

Call them what you will

•French Canadian, Francophone Canadian, Canadien all mean pretty much the same thing.

•Most French Canadians Identify themselves as Canadien, French, Quebecois,

or Acadian

•Until the 1960's religion was part of ones national identity as a Canadien•the Quiet Revolution changed this, as it was a period of secularization •Took Health Care and Education out of the Roman Catholic Church's hands, and left it up to the provincial government
