Most important

1,44 billion users

worldwide

What does all these peolpe long for?

What do they really long for? They want to feel alive

TALK TO THE

HEART

So what makes your heart beat?

The Heart Beat of Social Media

What values do you share with your audience?

Love the

nerds!Maybe you want to talk to a smaller group?

BUT….

• It’s like always….

• You can’t force anybody to love you.

• And turning viral is about true love. But of course you can always give love a little help in the right direction.

Always ask yourself…

# The social democrats won the election in Gothenburg, 2010, with a promise that the party would not introduce congestion tax on vehicles entering and exiting Gothenburg, unless the citizents would support the new tax in a referendum.# The social democrats broke their promise to the people. In January 2013, the congestion tax (trängselskatt) was introduced in Gothenburg. Due to this brokenpromise a vast majority of the population in Gothenburg was furious.# Was there nothing anybody could do?

#VOTEGBG – A Fight for Democracy! This is what we did!

GT launched a Social Media Movement

#VOTEGBG set the Agenda

• The facebook page was a huge success,• #votegbg is also a popular hashtag when

people debate the matter on twitter• We also push GT:s news on the topic on

FB and twitter. • The debate and interaction continues.

#VOTEGBG – Involved Everyone# Every day, GT had a talon distributed by social media, in the newspaper, on GT.se. Readers printed it, filled it in by hand, and mailed it to GT:s editorial office. The editor in chief’s room was rebuilt into a post office. The editors assistants main task was sorting the votes from the people.

Many local supermarkets and businesses asked tohave one of our special mailboxes for talons, to helpCollect the needed signatures for the referendum.

# GT had to collect more than 40 000 voters in 6 months, and the fight for democracy in Gothenburg still is by far the hottest political issue in Sweden’s second largest city.

#VOTEGBG – IN ALL CHANNELS• #Votegbg attracted thosands of citizents to our political

debates led by GT:s editor-in-chief, covered by GT:s live-TV

#votegbg was was present on our desktop and mobile campain site, on GT:s live TV, on our facebooksite, on twitter, on public debates with politicians and political scientists – that summoned thousands of people.

#VOTEGBG – DID IT WORK?

YES!MORE THAN

90 000 SIGNED ON!

#VOTEGBG – A Triumph for the People

The outcome

• The people will have their vote. Never before in Sweden has that many people forced the politicians to a local referendum.

• GT:s campain #votegbg has changed democray history in Sweden. It’s the biggest peoples initiative in Sweden so far.

• Political scientists praise the campain as a success for the modern local democracy process.

• GT set the agenda – brand awareness has gone sky rocket. • The people of Gothenburg salute GT as a hero that has

fought and won a battle for democracy.• In a year, trafic on GT.se has increased by 100 %, #votegbg, played a big part in the trafic increase.• GT went from the #2 newsite in Gothenburg to #1

Now, we’ve spoken of anger. The power of wanting something to

change.

But there are other ways to feel alive out there

Time to go Buzzfead, Upworthy, Huffington Post?

Do it yourself! In YOUR way!
