• You will learn to use geometry tools.
• You will learn to use a four step plan to solve problems
that involve the perimeter and area of rectangles and
parallelograms
Today’s Objectives
Key Vocabulary straightedge
compass construction midpoint
perimeter
formula area Four-step plan
straightedge
An object used to draw a
straight line, or to check if a line
is straight. It does NOT have to
be a ruler, just an edge that is
perfectly straight.
Determine if the sides of the
triangle are straight.
Use a straightedge to determine
which of the three segments at
the upper left forms a straight
line with the segment at the
lower right.
Compass A geometry tool used to draw arcs and circles.
You can use a compass to determine which
segment is longer, AB or CD.
In Geometry, you will draw figures using only a compass and a
straightedge. These drawings are called CONSTRUCTIONS. You
do not use any standard measurements when doing a
construction.
This is a construction of a six-sided figure.
The center of a line segment is called its MIDPOINT.
You can use thin paper (patty paper) to find
the midpoint of a line segment.
FORMULA An equation that shows how certain quantities
are related.
Parallelogram A quadrilateral with opposite sides parallel.
