PAUL NUNN – General Manager BIM, PDC Groupeview

Building Using Intelligent Models

Weekly BIM Workflow

Model Breakup and Use

• 160 models created by design consultants and sub-contractors – Revit is the general authoring software and structural steel in Tekla – PDC take NWD exports WEEKLY and federate to create the various BIMs

• We combine these to create 16 specific use models each week, including:

– overall federated model, – architectural departmental models, – core co-ordination models, – multiple clash testing models “level by level”, – subcontractor models, – site logistics models, – cost planning models, – work packages, – FF+E review and approval models, – door review and approval models,

• These models contain 1400+ preset design, construction and coordination views and are

distributed to 400+ people WEEKLY

Export Routine - Automated

• BIM Flow relies on the exports produced by Consultants & Sub- Contractors

• Major issues to routines if exports are erroneous

• PDC created an Export routine and supplied to each model author to ensure:

– Quality assured & complete exports

– Reduces demand on model authors to create weekly exports for BIM workflow

– Ensures BIM Flow routine success

Export Routine – Automated Model Exports

Click on PDC Export button • Selects View • Sets View Settings Activates the NWC Exporter

• Sets Navisworks NWC settings – (Reads from saved .XML File)

Saves NWC file to Buzzsaw Sync Folder. Uploads to Project

Model Data Re-arrangement

Data Manipulation - 5D

• QA, Manipulate, Append Data and Export to DWFx – Costing Workflow

• Run “Integrator” routine to collate required data – Specific Use Navisworks Tab

Data Manipulation - 5D

• Run “Append Data” routine to add Information such as QSID – Elemental Codes

Data Manipulation - 5D

• Run “Data Link” routine to add Information from external databases such as Cost Rates

Data Manipulation - 5D

• Run “DWFx Exporter” routine to Export “CostX Data” Tab information only and create CostX friendly DWFx

Data Manipulation - 5D

• DWFx comes into CostX with Clean, Quality assured information

• Specific Costing information only

• Allows costing team to work more efficiently

Data Manipulation - 5D

• Once in CostX - Import Dimensions

– Utilise “BIM Import Template iConstruct General.xslt”

– Automatically matches to “CostX Data” Tab created in Navisworks through iConstruct routines
