Installation
Clean and degrease both shaft surface andcoupling hub bores. Re-check shaft diametersand coupling bores for proper tolerances.As a standard, the boreholes are equippedwith a fitting in accordance with ISO-H7.For the shafts, we recommend an transition,e.g. H7/g6. When selecting other shaft fitting,the fitting should not exceed a maximum of0.01 - 0.05 mm.Slide a coupling hub onto each shaft andproceed to torque the screws of one clampring or shrink disc after checking axial dimen-sions. Refer to the technical data to assurecorrect screw tightening torque.Firmly press elastomer spider into one of thetwo hubs. Because of the interference fit,the force necessary to install the spider maybe quite high, therefore a PU tolerant greasesuch as Vaseline may be applied to easeassembly. The edges of the spider and thejaws of the coupling hubs are both chamferedto ease assembly.Raised contact points visible on the front andback side of the elastomer spider help main-tain proper spacing between the two hubsassuring electrical isolation and full angularmisalignment capabilities.Carefully push the coupling hubs togetherwhile maintaining the necessary spacing,tighten the screws of the remaining clampring or shrink disc to the recommended tor-que. The function of the gap is to prevent thecoupling hubs from restraining the axial mo-vement of the spider. This ensures optimumlife of the coupling and spider.

AlignmentThe picture above shows the (3)types of misalignment. Themounted coupling needs to bealigned. The more accurate theinitial alignment, the better thecoupling can absorb additionalmisalignment during operation,thereby assuring optimum lifeti-me and quiet running conditions.If all (3) types of misalignmentoccur simultaneously, each typemust not reach the maximumallowable value.The combined impact of the ac-tual misalignment types, expres-sed as a percentage of the ma-ximum allowable value,
must not exceed 100%. The dia-gram below shows the combi-ned misalignment.
RemovalRemove the locking screws, e.g.on the motor. Pull the drive unit,including the jaw coupling apart.Inspect the spider for wear and if necessary, insert a new spideror one with a different shorehardness.After loosening the keylessclamp ring or shrink disc, thehubs can be removed.

1) Dynamic torsional stiffness at 0.5 x TkNDynamic balancing is required for speeds exceeding V=30m/s
The couplings can be finetuned to the specificapplication requirements interms of torsional stiffnessand vibration behavior byselecting from various co-lor coded elastomeric spi-ders having different gra-des of shore hardness.
Technical termsfor the couplingdesignPre-Compression: The curvedjaw couplings are designed tohave an interference fit betweenthe coupling hubs and elasto-mer element for true backlashfree operation. Therefore, theflexible spider needs to be pre-compressed for proper seatingduring the assembly procedure.The amount of pre-compressionvaries widely depending on theshore harness of the spider, thesize of the coupling and the ma-chining tolerances. A light forceis necessary to pre-compressthe torsionally soft spiders whilea large force is required to pre-compress a torsionally stiff spi-der.
TkN – Nominal Torque of cou-pling (Nm): Continuous torquewhich can be transmitted throughout the entire speed range, taking into considerationoperational factors such as am-bient temperature and torsionalstiffness.
Tkmax – Maximum Torque ofcoupling (Nm): Torque to betransmitted 1 x 10^5 times asa peak load or 0.5 x 10^4 timesas an alternating load during theentire life of the coupling takinginto consideration factors suchas temperature, torsional stiff-ness and shock loading.
