DESCRIPTION

This is a preliminary exploration of the recreation of the course of historic Gowanus Creek accross the industrial landscape, by restoring buried cobbles under now tarred street beds. The aim is improve the rainwater permeability of street end pedestrian plazas and irrigate fractal rain gardens. Based on a conversation between Eymund Diegel, Ray Howell (Dredgers) and Hans Hesselein (GCC)

Bringing back the Ghost Streams of the GowanusA project to mark the historical edges of Gowanus creek by using rain water permeable paving stones at new street end sponge parks and rain gardens. On blocks further upland the creek’s course would be marked by double rows of granite pavers, acting as tra�c calming devices and memory markers.
