CONSERVATION INVESTMENT • Birds of Prey: Imvelo’s presence and supervision in the area includes monitoring and protection of all raptor
nests along our section of the gorge as well as a serious education program amongst villagers as to the benefits and role of raptors.
• The huge role that Imvelo plays in the local communities (see below) has a tremendous conservation spin off to the Batoka Gorge area and wildlife as there is a direct linkage between the tourism benefits to local communities and wildlife conservation

SCHOOLS
• Chisuma Primary School - 2 classroom blocks rebuilt, 80 sets of school furniture provided, pupil ablution blocks, 3 teachers cottages built and 2 refurbished, water tank installation, erecting a fence around the school
• Monde Secondary School - 80 sets of school furniture provided, 40 sets of text books, construction of 3 teachers cottages • Sidinda Primary School – re-floored classrooms, repaired roofs
CLINICS
• Chisuma Clinic – electrification and the installation of water pumps
• Sidinda Clinic - Rebuilt main building and nurses accommodation, installation of water supply tank and pump, generator, piping
DOMESTIC WATER SUPPLIES
• Clean domestic water supplies are critical for community health in the tribal area adjacent to Gorges Lodge.
Imvelo Safari lodges in collaboration with sponsors has: - drilled and equipped 10 new village wells - repaired and maintained existing wells on frequent occasions
HEALTH
• Apart from routine assistance provided to local clinics Imvelo Safari Lodges co sponsors an annual Mobile Dental Safari that has attended to 8379 patients since 2011 within the communities around our lodges adjacent to Hwange National Park and Victoria Falls
FEEDING PROGRAMS AND MAIZE SEED DISTRIBUTION
• To assist in times of drought Imvelo Safari Lodges and its donors have funded and supplied feeding programs at Sidinda School and done an extensive maize seed distribution exercise
EMPLOYMENT
• Many of the staff that work at Gorges are employed from the neighbouring villages around Chisuma
NYAMUKANI EMBROIDERY CLUB
• The Nyamukani Club, started by Gorges Lodge in 2006, was set up to help the large number of destitute
people, often children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic, within our neighbouring communities. Nyamukani in Numbia literally means ‘Get up and Help yourself”.
• The Mannings, lodge managers at the time and Pepsi Tshuma, our Assistant Manager, began teaching
women how to embroider and formed the Club.
• Today Nyamukani has over 80 members and their products are sold all over the world. Their embroidered
products are available at the Gorges Lodge Curio Shop. They are perfect if you’re looking for something unusual and special to take home that’s easy to pack and does make a difference.

On the Bulawayo / Victoria Falls tar road- 12 kms out of Victoria Falls town, a turn to the east – marked Deka and Gorges Lodge – turn down this gravel all weather road and drive for 11.2 kilometres. There is a sign marking the turn northwards to Gorges Lodge – 2.4 km.
