Grade 6 Mathematics CAT:Section Break Description

• Grade 6 Mathematics SOL format will be a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT), including Plain English Math

• Grade 6 Mathematics (CAT)– A screen with new graphics has been added between

the non-calculator section & calculator section• Indicates a calculator may be used on remaining questions.• The student is directed to raise his/her hand to receive a

calculator.• A check box is available for students to indicate they received

a calculator.

• Note: Students will be able to proceed past this screen by hitting the Next button without entering a seal code and without checking the box.

• Grade 6 Mathematics (CAT)– Test Examiners/Proctors will need to be vigilant in

monitoring students between the non-calculator and calculator sections of the test.

New Icon for Grade 6 Mathematics CAT

• Grade 6 Mathematics (CAT)– To assist Test Examiners/Proctors monitor the

SOL, a “No Calculator” icon will appear on the first section of the test in the upper right-hand corner of the screen below the toolbar.

– This icon now appears on the Grade 6 Mathematics Computer Adaptive Training Test on the Virginia Department of Education website.

• Grade 6 Mathematics (CAT)– Students may take an individual break during test.– “Classroom” breaks are not allowed.– The CAT test requires the student to respond to a

question before advancing to the next test item. – The student cannot flag items for review or go back to

previous items. Thus, the following buttons are not available for review:• Flag for Review• Previous• Section Review
