Athens had been burnt to the ground and was in ruins. The Athenians saw this as a

time to revamp!

Greece.

Athenian life• The Theater of Dionysus was the main theater.• Men played all the characters, but wore masks when portraying women.

• Men gathered and discussed current ideas.– Example: meaning of life, beauty and truth

• Socrates said, “I am the wisest man in Greece because I know that I don’t know anything!”

Sports• Boxing/Wrestling– The event ended when one fighter surrendered, lost

consciousness, or died.• Running• Chariot racing• Winners of games were crowned with laurel leaves• These games began in neighborhoods, but still occur today. What are they called?
