Michael has served on the Construction Specifications Institute's Los Angeles Chapter Board since 1998 as Director, President Elect, and President, as well as current Past President. Michael has served on local and national CSI committees, including the Technical, Education, Website/Electronic Communications, Strategic Planning and GreenFormat committees.
Recipient of the 2009 Wilbur Johnson Memorial Award, for notable contributions in conjunction with specifications, and education to the Los Angeles CSI Chapter, the CSI West Region, and the CSI Institute.

LEED 2009
• LEED 2009 redistributes the weight of available points within each rating system relative to each credit’s ability to potentially mitigate a building’s environmental impact. This enables the ability to measure the relative impacts of buildings.
• USGBC weighs each credit using the areas of concern identified by EPA’s Tools for the Reduction and Assessment of Chemicals and other Impacts (TRACI life-cycle analysis).
• Climate change has been identified as the most important area of concern and thus receives the most weight.
• Reflecting this, LEED v. 3.0 puts a much greater emphasis on energy efficiency – 32% of LEED 2009 points come from EA credits versus 24% of LEED v. 2.2 points.
• As a result, buildings that ignore climate change impacts are inhibited from performing well in LEED.

submittal for this Section of Work.
2. Product Data for Credit MR 4.1: For products having recycled content, documentation indicating percentages by weight of postconsumer and pre-consumer recycled content. Included LEED Submittals Processing Sheet (See Section 01335).
3. Product Certificates for Credits MR 5.1 and 5.2: for products and materials required to comply with requirements for regional materials indicating locations and distance from Project of materials manufacturer and point of extraction, harvest, or recovery for each raw material. Include statement indicating cost for each regional material and the fraction by weight that is considered regional (See Section 01340).

3.01 LEED MANDATORY PREREQUISITES AND CREDITS
A. Mandatory Prerequisites: The following LEED prerequisites must be included in the Work that must be included as part of a LEED rated project. The other listed measures can earn credit points under the LEED system and must be included as part of the Work. The LEED prerequisites and credits listed below may be modified upon adoption of the LEED 2009 Rating System, in which case LEED 2009 prerequisite and credit requirements will prevail.
B. Sustainable Sites:
1. Construction Activity Pollution Prevention, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plan (Prerequisite SS.Pr1):
a. Comply with local Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) or the requirements and the EPA’s Construction General Permit.
b. Use the more stringent requirements of the above in developing and implementing a plan.….
