Revelation is the communication of truth which could not be discovered by natural reason.

The Bible is not man's thoughts about God It is God revealing Himself and His purposes

to man.

It is God's Book in Its Origin

Inspiration describes the process by which the revelation was recorded.

Revelation discovers new truth, while Inspiration

superintends the communication of that truth.

It is God's Book in Its Origin

How Inspiration?

Verbal Dictation or Mechanical Inspiration :

-the writer no more than a mechanical dictating machineDynamic Inspiration:.

- God only gave the writers the thoughts or concepts, and allowed them to express them in their own words and way.

It is God's Book in Its Origin

The Verbal, Plenary Inspirationthe Holy Spirit somehow spoke into the

hearts of these men, directing the thoughts and words which were to be spoken and subsequently written.

2 Tim 3.....”from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

It is God's Book in Its Origin

2 Samuel 23:2-3 "The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me; His word is on my tongue. The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me:"

Jeremiah 1:9 "Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth; and the Lord said to me 'Behold, I have put my words in your mouth'"

1 Corinthians 11:23 "For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you..."

Galatians 1: 11, 12 " For I want you to know brothers that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.“

It is God's Book in Its Authority

Final Authority?

The Roman Catholics - it’s the Church.

The liberal theologians – it’s human reason.

Evangelicals - the Scripture is the ultimate and final authority.

It is God's Book in Its Authority

"Thus says the Lord" occurs over 400 times in the Old Testament.

"God said" occurs 42 times in the Old Testament and four times in the New Testament.

"God spoke" occurs 9 times in the Old Testament and 3 times in the New Testament.

"The Spirit of the Lord spoke" through people in 2 Sam. 23:2; 1 Kings 22:24; 2 Chron. 20:14.

• Jesus affirmed at least six things that were true about the Bible.

• A. Without Error. In John 17:17, Jesus said in His prayer to His Father, “Thy word is [Full of contradictions? Errors? No.] truth.”

• B. Historically Reliable. Jesus affirmed as historically true some of the most disputed passages of the Old Testament :Jonah in the whale (Matt. 12:40), Noah (Matt.24:37-39)etc

• C. Divinely Authoritative. Over and over, Jesus said to Satan, “It is written...it is written...it is written” (Matt. 4:4-10).

It is God's Book in Its Authority

• D. Scientifically Accurate. For example, when He taught on marriage He referred to the literal creation of Adam and Eve (Matt. 19:4).

• E. Infallible (Dependable, or Unbreakable). In John 10:35 Jesus said, “The Scripture cannot be broken.”

• F. Indestructible. In Matthew 5:18 Jesus said, “For truly I say to you, until heaven and Earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished.”

Psalms 19:9-10 Hebrews 4:12

Psalms 119:105 Jeremiah 23:29

Ephesians 5:26 Job 23:12

James 1:22-25 Hebrews 5:12-13

Honey

• The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.  More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

Psalms 19:9-10

Sword

• For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

Food

• Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

Job 23:12

Lamp

• Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Psalms 119:105

Fire

• Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD;

Jeremiah 23:29

Hammer

• Is not my word saith the LORD like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

Jeremiah 23:29

Water

• That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Ephesians 5:26

Mirror

• But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

James 1:22-25

Meat

• For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
