Gun ControlDanielle Gauthier

It is our Constitutional right to bear arms; but with so many violent acts committed with them, would it be justified to

take them away? Or are guns really the problem? Before we ban the ownership of guns, we must take the issues behind

the violence into consideration.

. This is the document our country was founded on in 1787, and still abides by to this day.

Guns have been a staple in the American culture since the country was founded & helped us fight for our

freedom If guns are taken away from the people, will we truly

be able to defend ourselves?

It is our Constitutional right to bear arms

"The only way to reduce gun violence is to pass laws that give citizens the right to carry firearms. Criminals are less likely to commit violent acts if they believe their victims could be armed.“

-Phyllis Schlafly

Despite its peaceful reputation, Switzerland has guns and other weapons “readily available” to citizens who have an “easily obtained license”

In 2010, Switzerland had 53 cases of homicides by guns, while the United States had 16,259.

Proving that it is not the laws that determine the violence, it is the culture of the country.

Guns are a means of protection

To reduce the number of crimes in the country the issues behind the violence must first be

addressed such as poverty, gangs, drug abuse and mental illness.

Banning gun possession will not stop people from obtaining them- it will only force people to

get them illegally.

Banning guns without addressing the issues behind the person carrying the gun would not solve any problems.

We need to extend resources for people with the issues causing the violence: therapy, counseling, rehab etc.

. We must take a stand and use our power as a democracy to not allow our right to own guns to be taken away.

“Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”
