Happy Holidays Everyone
On March 22 the staff was
honoured by the Home Ec.
Students with a lovely
lunch complete with soup,
sandwiches, veggies, and
such a variety of desserts.
There was a wide selec-
tion of appetizing foods
and what a treat for the
staff---not to have to bring
our own lunches.
This was all done while
Mrs. Smith was away and
Mr. Prusak was subbing.
Great job, Mr. Prusak and
all the students.
Thank you all very much.

Our Senior Girls basketball team finished off an amazing season with a trip to Trochu, AB, March 16-19, to attend
the 2016 1A Girls Basketball Provincials. It was the first time a girls’ team from Hines Creek had been to Provin-
cials in over 20 years! The girls did an excellent job representing our school and community, showing their Tiger
Pride on and off the court. Finishing in the top 10 in the province on their first trip to Provincials is impressive.
Great work, girls! We are so proud of all of you! Good luck, Zoe, as you move on to University next year- the team
will miss you! Congratulations to our coach, Mrs. Craig, for receiving recognition for her great sportsmanship with
the presentation of a sportsmanship pin after our final game.

The senior men's basketball team traveled to Pincher Creek AB. for Provincials on March 16. It was a busy few days with a breakfast and opening ceremonies, a game everyday, a semi -formal banquet. The team took advantage of local attractions, using the public pool, traveling out to the Frank Slide interpretive center, some of the group went to smashed in buffalo head and Lundbreck falls. Lots to see and do, settled in the amazing scenery. We faced some adversity having 2 players out with injury, our young players stepped up, gained some experience and overall it was a great time. The athletes carried tiger pride throughout the tournament and trip and we are very proud of you.

We had green day on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. As well as ― the wearing of green‖, elementary students
were asked to eat green. The class who had the most fruit & veggies/person in their lunch won a special
prize. The prize (stress balls made by the S.W.A.T. team-see below) went to the Grade one class and the run-
ners up were the grade two class. Congratulations!!!
Spotlight on Health and Safety
Kristy Shilka, PRSD Health & Safety Coordinator
For us to be healthy and safe we need to live in a healthy environment. When we talk about the environment we mean the
surroundings or conditions that affect all life on earth. This includes the air, food chains, the water cycle, plants, animals and
other humans. Our society is dependent on natural resources to maintain a standard of living that we have grown accustomed to
which is unsustainable and is continuously damaging our environment.
Each of us can make small changes that will add up to big improvements in making our environment healthier now and in the
future. Learn about the many available ways to conserve energy, carpool or use public transport, use less water and power.
Practice making less garbage by composting and following reduce, reuse and recycle programs. Be aware of your environmen-
tal footprint by doing things such as purchasing non-toxic cleaners, trying not to waste food and never litter. Have fun and teach
kids valuable life skills by growing some food of your own at home or in a community garden, or by planting a tree. Participate in
your town and highway clean-ups. Celebrate Earth Day on April 22.
When people protect the environment, they are protecting themselves and their futures; we can have breathable air, drinkable
water, and edible food for many generations to come. Let’s respect and care for each other and learn to work together to
preserve our health, safety and the environment.

I attended an Information Specialist Workshop on
March 7th. At the workshop Chad Larsen’s name
was drawn and he won a gift certificate. Chad is
among many students who enjoy reading eBooks
via the school division. Congratulations Chad!
As well, my name was drawn to win a gift certifi-
cate of $200 to put toward creating a library
common area (or to enhance the reading space
we already have). I am going to purchase a varie-
ty of indoor plants that are known to improve air
quality. I will get these plants after the Easter
break.
I enjoy having guest readers now and again to
read to elementary classes. So far, Isalin Gretland
and Jazmin MacDowall have been readers.
The students have been thrilled to have these
girls read to them and I would like to continue this
practice.
If there are other Jr./Sr. students who would like
to read to elementary classes, please let me
know.

We had Crazy Hair day on March 10. That was so much fun. Many students and staff turned up with very unique hairdos—
some crazier than others.
