On 31st. October people in Britain and the U.S.A. celebrate Halloween.Halloween is traditionally said to be the night on which _______ and witches can be seen.

On that night people -specially children- dress up with witches' hats, Dracula's cloaks, frightening ______ etc. to scare their family and friends.They make a _______ cutting the shape of a face from a hollow __________. Then they light a candle inside it and put the lantern in the window.

Also they play traditional games like "_____or treat" (People visit their neighbours or friends and ask them for sweets – a ___ -. If they don't they play a trick on them. It's very funny!).

Halloween has the origins in the ancient Celtic celebration called “Samhaim” (pronounced sow-in). The Celtic people lived in Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France over 2.000 years ago. The Celtic New Year began on November 1st. “Samhain” was a festive day that celebrated the end of summer before the New Year. During this festival the Celtics would wear costumes and try to tell each other their future. By the time Christianity in the Ninth Century November 1st. had been designated “All Saints Day “ or “ All-hallows”. The day before, October 31st. , was referred to as “All-hallows Eve”. It is now simply called “Halloween”
