HandsOn Greater Huntsville, formerly known as The Volunteer Center of Madison County, is the premier connection between volunteers and community needs. We partner with the community to mobilize volunteers and to provide solutions to local challenges. But it is you, the individual volunteer, who makes HandsOn key to this community. We believe that only people can solve community problems, and we would like to challenge you to help us help our community.
HandsOn Greater Huntsville was created in 1969 as a clearinghouse to link new volunteers with non-profit organizations. We build the capacity of partner agencies – most of the non-profit agencies in our community - to involve and manage volunteers and to address local needs through volunteering.
HandsOn Greater Huntsville is the only agency in Madison County that acts as a clearinghouse for ALL volunteer services to over 175 non-profit agencies. Over the past year, HandsOn Greater Huntsville has facilitated over 3,000 opportunities for volunteers to serve. We have tripled our volunteer database from 1,500 to over 4,500 registered skilled/unskilled volunteers who support the tutoring, translating, business and workplace volunteering and overall betterment of Madison County. The national average value for a volunteer, based on research by the Points of Light Institute, is $21.44/hour in 2009. Based on that figure, HandsOn Greater Huntsville provided our community with over $2.4 million in volunteer placements last year. Your gift of time, talent and treasure helps strengthen our community and we thank you.
HandsOn Greater Huntsville offers online registration and volunteer opportunities at www.volunteerhsv.org. Our toll free number is 1-877-567-8723. We provide customized, done-in-a-day projects for individuals and for businesses who promote employee volunteerism. Make it part of your Business Plan to be a member of HandsOn Business Volunteer Council.
Please join us. We know we can provide an opportunity for you to better our community.
