Hank Williams touched a number ofBiloxians during his myriad visits toBiloxi, and the Rogers family – fatherJimmie, mother Joyce and son “Hank”(yes, Hank) – will forever have aspecial connection to the legendarysinger.

When he was very young, Jimmiebroke his neck in a diving accident offthe old Lamey Bridge. He washospitalized and would miss anupcoming Biloxi show by Hank WilliamsSr. He had already bought tickets andarranged time off from his job at HomePride Milk.

Hank found out about the mishapfrom promoter Yankie Barhanovich.Turns out, Hank dedicated his show tothe ailing Biloxian and some of theproceeds were used to buy a radio, which Barhanovich presented during thehospital visit.

Hank and another star of that era,Big Bill Lister, even visited the hospital, with Hank presenting Jimmie withseveral tickets to attend the Grand OleOpry and an open invitation andcomplimentary train fare to come as hisguest to Nashville and do some fishin’.

Less than three months after Hank’spassing, the Rogers family welcomed anew son, David A. Rogers, who to this dayhas the nickname “Hank,” a fond tip ofthe hat to the original, Hank Williams Sr.

Yankie Barhanovich presentsa radio to ailing BiloixianJimmie Rogers who wasforced to miss a HankWilliams Sr. performance.
