BMW Programme
set up a test production line staffed by workersover 47
workers came up with 70 load-easing changes,
form a wooden floor that dampened pounding, tocushioned shoes, tilted screens with bigger lettering, tools with a lower gripping force, height-adjustablework benches, work rotation mid-shift
after one year, the line was as productive as lineswith people 10 years younger...

data cleaning. Triangulation interviews with 5 organisations (26
workers).
Data analysis complete discussion document presented to 5 collaborating organisations.
Decisions made regarding focus of Phase 2.
2 Indepth rich data collection (interviews,
observations , objective measures).
Codevelop solutions to workplace design problems.

solutions
Focus on access/egress & picking up/carrying in confined spacesUnderstanding their views on ageing and staying fit and healthy in their job ( prompts: obstacles, advice to others, top tips).
Encourage thinking about staying healthy through design in their job (prompts: design solutions procedure, equipment, training etc)
To collate solutions to workplace design problems focusing on ergonomics and healthy ageing at work .
Personal design story
..to help position the liner plates onto the rotator ..you can slide them onto a piece of scaffolding pole that we have welded a washer too . The washer stops the plate from sliding onto your hand and trapping it
..the plates can then be levered into position ready to be bolted .
