The School is currently home to four academic majors that serve approximately 800 undergraduate students.  The school's

mission is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes for 21st century leadership in the promotion of

healthy lifestyles. 

MISSION OF THE HEALTH PROMOTION MAJOR

• To provide an innovative program of study, incorporating experiential learning with a challenging positive academic environment for development and growth which integrates critical thought, theoretical

concepts, ethical perspectives, and an appreciation for the richness of diversity to strengthen the profession

of health promotion by advancing theory into practice.

How Healthy Are You!!!

The Smith Exercise Science Laboratory is a part of the Health Promotion program.

They provide exercise programs to a beginning exerciser all the way to advanced exerciser

using state of the art equipment and scientific methods.

A minimum level of personal fitness and physical activity is widely viewed as one of the best forms of health insurance.

The Coastal Carolina University’s health program has access to the best available physical fitness assessments.

Coastal Carolina University's Health Promotion major is one of only 21 programs in the nation and the 1st in South Carolina that has been awarded the designation of SABPAC Program Approval.

Areas of Study

Coastal’s Health Promotion program features three different areas of study so that students may personalize their studies based on career or graduate school aspirations:

Health Promotion with General Cognate Health Promotion with a Communication

Option Health Promotion with a Fitness Option

7 of the 20 fastest growing occupations in the United States are health-related.

250,000 workers are needed in public health by 2020 – which is three times the number of students who are projected to graduate from public health programs – to meet public health work needs.

Over the next eight years, it is estimated there will be: 26% increase in health education positions; 16% increase in medical and health management

positions, and; 21% increase in health services.
